There seems to be interest in running the 'write an extremely positive' OR 'write an extemely depressing' song competition. I'd like to start the next comp this week.
Do we need extra 'rules' or 'guidelines'? Feel free to provide them.. So we create the assignment together..
I'd like to throw in a rule that using the word 'like' is forbidden when used as a comparison. So 'I like the smell of cookies' is allowed, but 'You're like the air that I breathe' is forbidden.
Any more constraints? Let us know!! We loooooove constraints.. Constraints make the challenge, don't they?

Cheers!

So ...... a very positive song without use of the word "like"?  :D

Songwriter, Keyboards, Arranger, Producer & Engineer for November Sound

November Sound is based on the Mother, Father & Son musical trio of Melissa, Bill & Will. I'm the father so anything I post will have my wife singing and/or my son playing percussion.

@Bill from November Sound and @Mar T.  , yes i would be in for a songwriting competition where we have to write an extremely positive and happy song, without using the word 'like'....that will not be easy

and since you like constraints @Mar T.  ;D ;D ;D     how about also choosing one word...one peculiar word....that we all need to include in the song....perhaps a random word ?

Just thinking about it! There will not be a level playing field though. Our US friends will be at a disadvantage.
Especially since the agreed upon sentence is something like (!!!!!!):

Iím not going to ffen do her in like a million years. Chances are, that two forbidden words will appear in one very short sentence.

So we might want to think again about a ban for that word. The word ďlikeĒ I mean.

More on a practical thing: how long would this run, do you think? Will I be at home in time or can I drop a lyric for someone to (or not to) gobble up?

I really am not afraid of limitations. The famous Rotterdam poet Jules Deelder said loosely translated:
Within the limitations, the possibilities are endless.
And in tartiflette I trust, but in Deelder too.

Iíve never entered into a contest before and Iím nervous already.

Early reply? Hmmmmm....., late reply is OK as well.
Kind regards, Gus

Iím all for slow food.
Really!
But I Ďm slower than that.
But donít let that hamper you!

We travel extensively the first 2/3 rds of the year.
For instance, we travel mostly with our tents 18 weeks out of the first 37 weeks.
Of course weíre with you guys, fo we bring our own connection with the internet. Tent or not.
But, as you will understand, I canít record in a tent!

But apart from that, weíll be in touch quite often.
So, if the deadline is approximately the 20th of February, that might just be enough or just a little short.
Anyway, there will be other challenges if I miss this one, right?
Kind regards, Gus

What does an intelligent guy like you have to do with Ďfeelingsí?
Itís like studying medicine with all the double blind inv stigations and marrying because it feels right.

So iíll hop on the wagon if I can, but if I Ďm late? So be it. Thereíll be another challenge or some such thing.

Iím pretty sure about reincarnation. I donít do chewing gum for fear of coming back as a cow.
Iíll be checking up on the goings on here from time to time.
Weíll be in touch.....

I really love the competitions but I do worry that I can't work quickly enough to get something into a reasonable state. I'm a slow worker at the best of times and if I stretch myself, which the kitchen is starting to make happen more and more, then things seems harder and harder to do. That's why I really respect everybody who takes part in the competitions in the kitchen. I guess I'm fighting my own nature to put out something that seems under-par to me, just so I can say I've put in an entry. I'm hoping I can get into the right mindset / not be too busy / have the inspiration quickly enough so I can enter something this year.

Hey @MrBouzouki , Pete, the sole aim of our competitions is to 'get' people into the songwriting flow and create things. I'm a perfectionist and my creations are never really 'ready'. It helps me to have a deadline, so I post whatever I have at that moment. I'm free to develop further after the competition is closed anyway.. so to me it means I produce more songs/year then when I wouldn't join the comps.. Just another angle.. Maybe that works fro you too!
Cheers!

I get you Mart, @Mar T. , I'm sure I will get involved. It's amazing how much I've been influenced by here and SoundCloud.
I remember the slight nervousness of signing up for this forum and now I look back on it and think I wish I'd done it years ago.

To any new members / lurkers, get involved, as the payback is in direct proportion to your involvement. That's why I intend to get something done on the competition front this year.  ::thumb:: ::thumb:: ::thumb::
For a start I need to revisit "Dance Across the Keys" my idea for the only comp I've entered so far, without the inspiration of the comp the idea would never have been written.

This place allows you to find your feet, discover stuff and makes you feel you aren't on your own with this strange desire to create music.

It gets my vote  ::OSMAN:: ::OSMAN:: ::OSMAN::

;D ;D ;D ;D thanks for these kind words about this forum @MrBouzouki

and it is good to see that this new songwriting challenge gets support from @LePlongeur @Mar T. @Bill from November Sound and @CrystalSuzy

So the new competition will be: Write an extremely positive song, as in: ridculously happy, positive and feel-good  ;D ;D ;D ;D, but don't use the word "like" (btw....i would be for completely banning the use of both the words "like" and "love"     ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D for this competition)

shall we say the competition runs till the end of february?

Any more kitcheneers or kitchenettes who want to join this competition?

@Mar T.
@Dutchbeat

To whom it concerns
(A sea-going phrase if ever I saw one)

I will be glad to join, but I have to say that that will happen relatively late.
For reasons mentioned above, but also because I can check upon what fellow kitcheners make of it.

Smilies? No, no smiles.

If that is cause to kick me out of the competition, that doesnít bother me. Iíll post my entry anyway.
I like the idea already!
Kind regards, Gus
