Yes, language is very important.
There's an ad in NL saying: Say it with flowers.
At first I thought I was in the clear, not having to deal with nuances that escape me because of not native speaking.

So I brought flowers for a Russian friend. There were 10 yellow roses in the bunch. The are called tea roses overhere.
She escaped the motherland, so she can laugh about the eccentricities of Russia.

While we talked, I was told that an even amount of flowers is for the dead or, in case someone is still alive, a deathwish. On top of that, yellow roses is for traitors.
So you see that if I try and avoid a language I have difficulty with, I still make mistakes...
Kind regards, Gus

I vote for the '10 Yellow Roses Challenge', see above where Gus was replying to a post in my Two Hearts song thread.

This challenge would be to write a song about 'misunderstandings'. When you are trying to say one thing, but then the other person reads it completely differently. And then you have said the wrong thing completely, but entirely by accident!

Great inspiration, @LePlongeur;D
If you like novels with a musical theme, why not try 'Sixth Beatle - When Music Changed The World', easily found on Amazon and Google. It is amazing, although as the author I may be biased!

100% agree @MichaelA and @LePlongeur , I like that one a lot! Especially because of the possible contrast between 'the intention' and the 'effect'.
Let's see what everybody says, but that's +4 already ( DB, Gus, Michael and I )  :ok: :ok: :ok:

probably not this time, but what I'd like to throw in the hat for consideration someday - is that I'd like to hear an intimate rendition of the artist and their song, everything else just stripped away - the writer and the weapon of his choosing whether it's a guitar, piano, banjo whatever - but just them and that - no fancy leads, orchestra, effects , just put it out there bare.

Nice idea but I just tried that in the last challenge, @Vince. Worst ranking since I signed up to the forum  ;D ;D ;D Think I'm going to stick to layered electric guitars and programmed drums!

I could get behind the "misunderstanding" idea, especially  if its not confined to language. In  @LePlongeur  very good example, it was the gift of yellow roses rather than something said which was the faux pas...oops I may have given away my song title :bonk:
Ready to go when @MichaelA  winds up his media rounds ;)

Hi @Dutchbeat ,  yes I am definitely in for this Great Misunderstanding Song Challenge! But there might be a misunderstanding (  ;D ) as @LePlongeur didn't say he was in yet, I just put forward his words as an idea for a challenge. But I hope he does enter, of course, as his songs are always top for entertainment and enjoyment!  ::thumb::

Ok cool @Dutchbeat , let's declare that to be our last kitchen challenge for 2018 then!!
I'll start a thread soon summarizing the assignment, deadline and beggings for each kitchen member to join.
I'll guarantee you all that these challenges will help you to start writing/remixing or whatever your main sklill is.
We expect at least 30 entries. And when you can't join the challenge alone, please team up with your fellow kitcheners!!

Looking forward to the results dear members!!
Cheers!

Missed this discussion - so a bit late to the party . Just wanted to give a head up to @Vince  's idea of "just put it out there bare."
heading now to the challenge post itself,  bring on the misunderstanding songs
