Hi everybody here's the assignment for the last competition of 2017, the so called 'Travel Song' AND/OR 'Retro Rework' competition - Please join!!

By democratic voting two different assignments ended up with the same amout of support. We have decided we're going to do both. You can either choose the first or the second assignment OR combine them!

1. Retro Rework. Dig out one of your old songs and republish it, or record it again how you used to do it. Then create a 2017 rework of it and publish that for comparison. Most people's style and technique moves on, often improves, as they keep writing. But sometimes we have old nuggets of lost gold in our song-writing attics that if rewritten now could be made to shine! ( @MichaelA 's idea )
AND/OR
2. Create a traveling song ( @Leonard Scaper 's idea)

The competition will run from now until the end of this year (or close earlier when all entries are in).

A few rules:
-We organise these competitions to encourage songwriting. So please only post results that were created between now and the end of the year. *
-This is one competition (although we have 2 assignments).. So there will only be 1 voting thread. All entries will be listed there, no matter which of both assignments they were executing.
-When you finish your result please post it in in a NEW Songs for Review thread (NOT in this thread) and add '- Retro/Travel Comp' at the right of the song title to the subject. Please leave a comment in this comp thread with a link to your 'Songs for review' post, that makes it easy for me to collect the results...
-We will not vote for our own submission when voting is opened.
-All contestants need to vote (so we cancel out the chance a contestant benefits him-/herself from NOT voting).

In the mean time, of course we would like to know who's going to take part in this competition, I expect as least 15 contestants! Let us know! Leave us a reply so we can build a contestant list in the second (reserved) post..

Cheers! :bloodymarti:
:mart:

*Considering assignment 1 it's allowed to be an existing song, but is has to be (almost) completely recreated. If you doubt this to be true plz check with our staff first!

Hey @Bill from November Sound , no specific rules for that part, so go ahead!! Goal is to encourage songwriting, so no prob (although it's a minor 'pity' that we cannot compare the 'new' version to an existing 'old' one).

We've got lots of choir stuff in the pipeline, quite a few gigs and rehearsals on the lead up to Christmas.
That and the fact I dipped out last time with the last competition means I will watch with interest from the sidelines.
Always happy to vote, encourage, suggest etc.

Sign me up...you guys are going to have to suffer the "much human" voice though again, unless some kind person offers to sing it.  ;) :D

I've got a song in mind from 4 years ago...spent a bit of time over the weekend working it out, as I stupidly lost the chords I must have written down...it's about the oldest thing I've got on SC, I just about managed to speak/sing it then, surely my voice hasn't deteriorated that much in 4 years.  ???

I will join in, especially seeing as one my ideas was voted for! I recently re-discovered my old Mac Book from around 2007 in the loft. So I started cleaning down the files so I could give it away. In Garageband were about half a dozen 'roughs' of songs, all very undeveloped These were my first attempt playing with this new thing for me called 'digital instruments', and my first recordings since being a young 'un in bands. However, the world can now be thankful that none of these were ever published!  ;D But there were a couple of ideas in there that I now thought could be possibly reworked and developed at a push! So I am going to pick one of those two and see where I get to - should be a bit of fun anyway! Certainly a challenge when you listen to them, ha ha! They are DREADFUL  ::thumb::

Just a PS to @Bill from November Sound . You could always rerecord a version of the 2017 reworked song in the style of how you used to do it, if you can remember, even if it were just a fragment of it. Failing that, you should at least probably describe in words how it is different, or it will be difficult for listeners to understand the 're-work' element. Just a thought, good luck with it. No pressure, but you are REIGNING CHAMPION with a precious title to defend, ha ha!  ;D  ;D  ;D

If you like novels with a musical theme, why not try 'Sixth Beatle - When Music Changed The World', easily found on Amazon and Google. It is amazing, although as the author I may be biased!

That's great news @Dutchbeat , @MichaelA , @Jim and @DanJames , I've added you to the contestants list in the 2nd post.

Come on kitcheners, we need at least 10 more contestants, feel welcome to join the last competition of this year!

Cheers! :bloodymarti:
:mart:

I'll give it a try @Mar T.   I'm not a performer or producer but I've got a lot of bad early recordings for do-overs. I'm gonna try to write a travel song first though, if I fail at that I'll do the re-work.

It's suppose to be friendly and fun and no pressure (at least from my listening point because I've enjoyed all the submissions from all the contests) so I hope more members give it a whirl.

V.
