Hi DB,

If i could make a tiny suggestion - perhaps make the lead vocal a touch drier, or mix in some dry signal over the current one just to give a bit more clarity to the lyrics.
Nice music - like Xmas in some South American rainforest.

Hey DB (and Mrs DB?) and RP, well I don't call this messing up DB... I was expecting a wall of sound, but I love to hear you layered this one nicely, but not over the top imo! Sounds good! Has some 80's vibe in it. In my ears the vocals match the song well. Only problem is I can't hear clearly what was sung. I did a quick search for the lyrics, but couldn't find them. Can you post them in this thread?
Well done you guys!!!

Hi Marti and Zedd,

thanks for your kind comments! Rabid and I are still working on it....

about the atmosphere (thanks Zedd for mentioning that...), this track contains some recordings Len B and i made in Leuven, so real churchbells and some reverbish footsteps in a churchtower...i think that may giev it an extra flavour in the atmosphere??? This was new for me, but Len B Always carries a tiny but very good four track recorder with him, and he is always hunting for sounds from real life to use in his tracks, he is very good at using real sounds and turning them into percussion etc.

Let me start by saying that I loved this idea of a collaboration right from the beginning and was intrigued by the idea of writing lyrics first and then having DB write something inspired by the lyrics.  My lyrics were basically in poem form and quite long-winded and heavy, so I was pleasantly surprised to hear some of the lines just pulled into this song.  and here's where it got interesting again for me... I head this version and another that DB sent with a bit more of the classic DB beats and then it led to me re-writing the lyrics as inspired by what was evolving.  As with any collaboration, it's always a minor tug-o-war when it comes to realising a singular vision based on two diverse influences, and we definitely have felt the snag of time pressure as a result.

It's always refreshing to have to remind myself to check my ego at the door and keep an open mind when coming to collaborate on something, and I am still learning how it all works (which, as a hermit songwriter scribbling away at 4am in my lair, I never had to do before joining the Kitchen!).  As a songwriting and production novice, I forget that I have ideas until I am presented with a challenge or a tug in a direction i hadn't thought of.  I've learned a lot already and hope to work on many more collaborations in the new year!

I do have a version of the track that I've sent to DB that I hope to share with you all (with his approval of course) - if not for any other reason than to show just how divergent and unique we are.  I am also willing to post my original lyrics alongside the eventual lyrics to the version i have created, if anyone is interested in the lyrical journey that occured from pure poem to how it evolved after hearing DB's instrumental for the first time.  Maybe it's more fascinating to me than anyone else, but I really appreciate how these things come together - the theme of the original poem I felt was not as strong as I'd liked and DB's instrumental gave it a beating heart and an urgency I hadn't written in, as well as an atmosphere I really wanted to take advantage of (since I can't for the life of me write that kind of score)!

Ha, as it is deadline day, i will post my effort on mixing this track for the Christmas comp, now with new vocals from Mrs. DB and with pieces of the very nice vocals of Rabid Parrot. Rabid will post his version with his complete vocals and lyrics on this forum too, we just ran a bit out of time... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D (the time pressure was enormous  ;D ;D ;D 8) 8) 8))
https://soundcloud.com/dutchbeat-1/time-is-running-out-make-a-christmas-wish-mix

the kitchen twist in this version is clearly delivered by Rabid, singing....: i want to smell the sweet smell of the kitchen..........i want to believe in innocence, i want to believe in the silly things, this is where it all begins...etc.
clearly a tribute to this lovely songwriters in the kitchen forum......(thanks Rabid!)

Great collab Mr and Mrs DB and RP.. you made it in time! It's a bit messy (in my ears), there's a lot happening in this track. On the other hand: that makes it really a journey to listen to, there's a lot happening!
I certainly enjoyed the listen!!
