Guitarists?
on: June 27, 2017, 23:20:25
« Last Edit: June 27, 2017, 23:23:34 by sully »
Hey all,

Love writing/singing songs but am unfortunately without a lick of talent for playing instruments.
I've written many songs and have/will be adding them, with hopefully vastly increased frequency, to my youtube channel.
Right now I have one complete song on there called "One of those days", I would love to hear it with some acoustic Guitar added in, I think it has potential.
Anyhow, any help anyone could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks  :)

 @sully Is it possible for you to figure out which chords should be played?

You, Sully, are a natural born a cappella blues singer. I am not good with that genre. Perhaps, though, you could adapt what you are singing to something along these lines......I just finished dinner and came in to the studio and threw this down as a sample of what could happen. I don't think it's quite right for you but maybe it will inspire somebody else better to help:

@sully - it sounds like it's rooted in G with you going up to a bluesy note of B flat. The notes in G Major are G A B C D E F# G. That makes the B flat a flattened 3rd note.

Blues tends to use flattened 3rd, flattened 5th and flattened 7th notes that equates to the field call singing notes of the past and gives it that bluesy sound.

A modified 12 bars should fit but I'd need to check your performance in more detail to see if you stick with it all through the track.

I'm digging your throw together @Leonard Scaper :-)

Another quick listen and I've got  G and Bb then G  .......... C Bb G.  I will see if I can make anything of this initial thought.

Others plow-on in in the meantime.  ;-)

I appreciate that @MrBouzouki . I was really just trying to show how a collaboration of this nature will likely require the singer to move toward some guitar composition that comes close rather than a guitarist to match something up to the a cappella performance.

@sully .....you have definitely demonstrated some very serious singing chops that really do need to find some accompaniment. Hopefully someone can come up with something more your style. You'll need to be ready to adapt that song a bit when that happens but I suspect you'll be able to easily do that.

I get that @Leonard Scaper. It's hard when things are set in stone and that's what the Kitchen is all about ... meeting half way :-)

@sully - if you haven't already check out BB King's performances on YouTube. His collaborations with various artists over the years might give be useful insights into that side of your voice.  ;)
