Our song :) - Rachel collaborating with Mark

Hey,

It's been a while since I wrote a short poem-song! This is one which came to me just a few minutes ago :) - In tune with this week's valentine's theme.
It was quite spontaneous with the lyrics / melody / chords of the first verse and the chorus coming together simultaneously :)
This is a very rough recording - recorded using my mobile phone... I hope that you like it!

Take - taken by surprise,
heaven only knows
why my smile will endure

Gaze - gazing in your eyes,
I can understand that
I mean as much for you

Happiness, is where the heart lives
and the song will last forever

Happiness, because my heart belongs to you
our song will never...

get older, get under,
get bruised by the thunder,
- if ever - we'll fix it anew,
as long as we're together,
there's nothing that we cannot do!

Happiness, is where the heart lives
and the song will last forever

Happiness, because my heart belongs to you
our song will never get old :)

Wow that sounds so beautiful Rachel!
And ow yes it fits perfectly in the Valentine theme indeed!
Great melody here, sticks to the head immediately! And beautiful lyrics..
Incredible sometimes these things come up in songwriter's minds in just a split
second isn't it?
Beautiful!

Hi Rachel,

The picture makes me think of Mini Eggs with pancakes and maple syrup. I'm supposed to be on a diet - so thanks for putting that thought in my head. ;D

Lovely vocal melody - works well with the simple piano accompaniment.
Really like the quick vocal part - "Get older, get under..."

Nice one.

Hey Rachel,

I like this a lot! A simple and catchy melody with beautiful lyrics. I think you should make this longer and bigger, it's got a lot of potential.
Let me know if you'd like me to try and arrange some instrumental accompaniment for you. I'd really love to... :-)

Cheers,
Mark

Ha this sounds great, i really like that "hapiness...." chorus part, catchy and sweet

and yes, i agree with Mark, this would be great in a further arranged form, with some extra instruments coming in (the choruses in my ears are screaming for strings)

nice!

Thanks all for your positive comments! :D

@digger: hehe ? yes, the good thing about them is that they look so delicious that there is as much pleasure in looking at them as there is in their eating (and the former would still be safe diet-wise X) )

Glad you like the melody! I like it too when I write the quick-parts, they?re fun to sing too :)

@mark: Hey, thanks for your encouraging words! :) It means a lot that you see potential in my song :D Thanks for your offer! :) Yes, I?d like to have this developed and it would be great to listen to your instrumental accompaniment for it :) ?How do we proceed?

@DB: Thank you DB! It?s great to hear that you like the chorus. :D Yes, I think it would be great to have more instruments in this one :)

Hi Rachel

That's good news! I've listened to your song many times today on my way to work and back, and have a couple of ideas already. The song could develop into a classic rock ballad, or into somerhing more orchestral, or into a Bj?rk-like electronic thing, or even into a mixture of all that. In which direction would you wish to move on most likely?
And did you record your vocals as an individual track? If so, it would be very helpful to have that.
I'm really looking forward to delving into the project, it will be my first participation in the developmentof an original song... :-)

Cheers,
Mark

Hi Rachel.  This is a beautiful song.  Your voice is soft, gentle and very peaceful.   Are you playing the keys and singing together ? Or have you recorded them separately?  I'd re-record the piano with some echo  on it, and then maybe add some violins .... and you'll have an awesome and much fuller track.   A lovely short piece of loveliness !!

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your message and for your ideas :) I think I?d be more inclined towards a classic rock ballad or orchestral. Do you have any names of existing songs that represent those two particular genres so that I?ll be sure that we?re on the same wavelength?

I did not record the vocal as an individual track (as I was too excited to share it and just did a quick recording using my phone). But I can record a separate vocal and send it to you.

I am really looking forward to this as well! I was really glad to read that you were interested to participate in its development  and am really excited to see how this will turn out! :D

@ Zedd: Thanks for your comment Zedd! :) I?m really glad that you like it! :D  :D

@MM: Thank you!! :D :D

@jmacdon: Thanks for your very nice comment :) The recording was a quick one using my phone ? initially I was actually recording the vocal while playing but my fingers were making too much noise when pressing the keys so I decided to first record the keys on the ?synthesiser?s memory? and then replayed the music and sung directly to it and recorded it using my mobile (so in the recording both the voice and the music are still merged). I agree that the music deserves to be fuller :) Thanks for listening! :)

Good morning Rachel

Very well. My examples for the two genres would be:

"Because The Night" by Patti Smith as a classic rock song (not exactly a ballad... :-\)
"Wake Up In New York" by Craig Armstrong as an orchestral thingy

Are we on the same wavelength?  :)

I'm gonna try to put some first ideas together tomorrow. Don't have much time today, on the run to work again already. Talk to you soon...

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the song names, they sound beautiful. Yes, I think we're on the same wavelength :)

The theme is also bringing to my mind these 3 other songs which create a similar ambience/mood to what I was feeling when creating the song:
Musica:
come what may:
rule the world:

I recorded a version with the vocal only, here it is:

Hope this helps,
Rachel
