Hi Rachel and all...

Okay, here's the second version. I've made some big and many small changes. Let me know what you think...  :) Thanks!

i am listening to the first link, the with vocals version

and i am so much enjoying this

the song, the vocal and the instrumental track, and all the separate instruments

how the reed and wind sounds swell in and out....
i am very impressed

 8) :o :o :o i am blown away by how sweet and delicate and right this sounds

tip would be to just add a tiny extra drop of volume on the vocal...and a dash of extra volume over the entire mix by using some overall compression
but never mind me, i am getting deaf and i make everything too loud

this is seriously great!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
me, myself, and Pie

Wow man that was an improvement to me! I already got goosebumps from listening to the first version, but now it's even better! I love the drums (nice low end kick btw!) in this version.
My only suggestion would be to decrease the 'orchestration' in gain at 2'00 and at 2'43 (whilst keeping the orchestral dynamics (pianizzimo, forte)).
Beautiful work Mark and wow how great Rachel's voice sounds in this arrangement/production. Epic!!

Hi Mark,

I?ve been listening to the song and have to say that it is sounding incredibly fantastic! :D :D :D It?s so good that it left me speechless when I first listened ? everything is working really well together!? I had already loved the first version and in this second version you managed to make it sound even better! :D The way you developed this song is truly amazing! It?s really beautiful and soothing to listen to. I really like the changes that you made ? the bass drum sounds great, the arrangement works well and I also like the more subtle sounds at 2:00 :) The little details really work well!

My only comment is on the volumes ? I am listening using headphones so probably it would have been different if I were listening using speakers, but if I adjust the sound to listen to the first (softer parts) the loudest parts will get too high and I have to adjust the volume.

It?s a pleasure that you chose to work on my song I am really happy with your perfectly complementing musical transformation!! :)

PS ? I still need to think about the new lyrics because I have been extremely busy lately and now I have a sore throat and will not be able to sing before I recover :(

Hey Rachel,

That's wonderful news! Apart from your sore throat, of course. Get well soon! :)

In that case I guess you're okay with the repetitions...? If so, it's your turn now, you will have to write new lyrics. We'll definitely need one more line in the last chorus, apart from the other additions and changes that we have discusssed earlier. I'm courous about what you'll come up with.... But take your time!

I'll gladly tinker with the volume levels some more when making the final version...

Oh, the pleasure is all mine. It is a privilege to work with you and your wonderful song! :D :D :D

Cheers,
Mark

This is such beautiful music Mark and Rachel...but I have been to the pub now so will not try to explain why I think so, because I'll not do it justice...  :-X

Do you work with MIDI/piano-roll or score out of interest, Mark?  :)

This is truly magnificent!

It was a gorgeous song and vocal to start with but really this collab is bringing it to a whole new level.

Rachel, I'm not surprised you're speechless - it must be quite the experience to hear your song played back to you like this.

Kudos and all the rest - absolutely fantastic work Rachel and Mark!!!!

Thank you so much, MM and jim and Zedd!  :D :D :D

@jim: I work with the piano roll. Never really made friends with sheet music and musical theory. I can read notes, but find them rather cumbersome. White and black keys ar way more intuitive for me than all these clefs and accidentals... ???

@Mark ... oh well, seems not many are fans of squiggles and accidentals.   :(

The reason why I mentioned it is because there's a fairly new site I've become aware of for musical collaboration - https://flat.io/en - it's quite good from what I can tell - been having a play.  8)

In fact, if you wanted to, I think we (all) could still collaborate using it, as long as you do MIDI...I just did a little experiment where I recorded some 'live' MIDI in my DAW, quantized it then exported it to MIDI, then imported it into flat.io and it worked pretty well!  ;D

Flat.io can export in lots of formats to, so one could share a score there, and then others could add their parts to it, regardless of what the actual musical notation says, by repeating the process I did as an experiment.

Might be worth giving a go, seems perfect for Kitchen collabs I think (but then I'm a score-junkie  :-[).  ;)

Hey Kitcheners!

We need your input before we proceed with the final recording for this song:

Here’s a short introduction for those who are new to this post: This is a collab which Mark Luto and I started a few months back. I had written a short poem-song : (https://soundcloud.com/rachel_debattista/our-song-original-poem-song) and Mark was interested in creating a good instrumental for it. And this is his brilliant instrumental version :D :  (https://soundcloud.com/markluto/our-song-demo2a/s-prwT6)

As you can see the new version is now longer. The demo version incorporates repeated lyrics (as it was meant to give an idea so that we could then keep on developing the song). I have recently written some new lyrics to substitute the repetitions at the new verses and at parts of the chorus (refer to suggested lyrics below).

What do you think? Do you have any suggestions / feedback on the lyrics / the rest of the song?

Take - taken by surprise,
heaven only knows
why my smile will endure

Gaze - gazing in your eyes,
I can understand that
I mean as much for you

Happiness, is where the heart lives
and the song will last forever
Happiness, because my heart belongs to you
our song will never...

get older, get under,
get bruised by the thunder,
- if ever - we'll fix it anew,
as long as we're together,
there's nothing that we cannot do!

Happiness, I give my word to you
and that’s what I’ll remember,
Happiness because my heart belongs to you
now and forever

Float, floating in the skies,
Trust is all we hold and
Our hearts, are set free

Count, counting all the stars,
I can feel we’re soaring
To a place we’ve never knew

Happiness, is where the heart lives
and the song will last forever
Happiness, because my heart belongs to you
our song will never...

get older, get under,
get bruised by the thunder,
- if ever - we'll fix it anew,
as long as we're together,
there's nothing that we cannot do!

Happiness, is where the heart lives
and the song will last forever
Happiness, because I’ll keep the words I give
and I’ll remember
Happiness, because my heart belongs to you
our song will never get old

Hi @Rachel_D and @Mark Luto

i listened to this link:
https://soundcloud.com/markluto/our-song-demo2a/s-prwT6

and WOW :o :o :o :o Everything is great in this, fantastic instrumentation!!!! and great vocals and lyrics

very beautiful  ::thumb:: ::thumb::

the only thing i have a comment on, is that snare drum sound and placing, it sounds too static, to fixed to me compared to the music....i would expect timpanis, and perhaps an occasional crash cymbal , but not a snare at a very fixed spot

but never mind me, this is fantastic!!!!!!!!!! ::thumb:: ::thumb:: ::thumb:: ::thumb::

incoming karma for both of you

Thanks so much @Dutchbeat ! :-*

Hmm, I kept the drum pattern very minimal and static and "computery" on purpose. Wanted it to contrast with the orchestral arrangement. But anyway, adding some timpanis in the swells certainly isn't that bad an idea at all. Thanks for that! What do you think @Rachel_D ?

About the new lyrics, I pointed out to Rachel before that I noted some rhymes don't seem to work, especially when one just reads them. But this probably won't matter anymore when she'll apply her singing magic to the words. ::headphone:: I wonder what @Jim would have to say in the matter. Or any other kitchener of course... ;D

Cheers,
Mark

Hi @Mark Luto and @Rachel_D , just revisited this one and it immediately gave me goosebumps again!!
Few new impressions Mark: the orchestration is really loud at 2:42 and on... I'd tweak it down in those parts ;-)
I'd also add a bit of hall reverb to Rachels voice (be careful not to overdo that)..
Still: wow... amazing!! I'm impressed!
