How Did You Find The Kitchen?
on: September 09, 2018, 03:46:20
In celebration of the 5th anniversary of the "Songwriters in the Kitchen" forum maybe people would like to reflect on how they came across this nice little corner of the internet?  :)  :)  Maybe you have an interesting story to tell?   :)

So, my question is:

1. How did you find the kitchen?  Or, when did you first come across this forum?

2. How, when or why did you join?

November Sound is based on the Mother, Father & Son musical trio of Melissa, Bill & Will. I'm the father so anything I post will have my wife singing and/or my son playing percussion.

A great question @Bill from November Sound

I've just checked and I joined on June 16th, 2017, so it's over a year now.

I think I was generally browsing and I came across the forum almost by chance. I did a bit of non-member lurking for a few days as I was quite nervous about joining an established forum. I'm glad I did as it's been a revelation to be introduced to the breadth of music and people who come on here.

In my original post I said ... "I'm hoping I can put in as much as I get out of this forum.  It tends to be my style."

I think I've achieved that despite never entering one of the famous Kitchen competitions challenges yet. Members on here have been very supportive of my work and I hope I have been for them.  I have learnt so much and been exposed to music I might never have listened to, so it really has opened my ears. The Kitchen is a sounding-board, music library and songwriting club all rolled into one ;-)

Thanks everybody and it's nice having a place where people understand our peculiar obsession with home-grown music.

I was browsing the songwriting section of another forum.....looking for homegrown music.....and I stumbled upon an excellent tune from @tuff bransch  .  In his post he mentioned The Kitchen. I am very glad that he did.

Back in the days of myspace I enjoyed finding music in different styles from different countries. That was big fun. Unfortunately Myspace was sold to youknowwho... so then I started looking for soundcloud. Tat was brilliant - specially as an early bird, so much nice folks there to meet and truely odd music to discover.
Soundcloud used to have a strong tool for community building called "Groups" but unfortunately they couldn't scale that particular function - it was swamped with trolls, pirates and other bad intentions, - so to the dismay of many, Soundcloud axed 'groups'.
Then I started looking - and found the kitchen forum.
