Looking forward to Spring?
on: February 28, 2019, 03:21:07
Does winter where you live keep from doing things outside? Are you looking forward to Spring?
Bill
Songwriter, Keyboards, Arranger, Producer & Engineer for November Sound

November Sound is based on the Mother, Father & Son musical trio of Melissa, Bill & Will. I'm the father so anything I post will have my wife singing and/or my son playing percussion.

I am @Bill from November Sound - I don't know about America but we are basking in the warmest February for years so people are already busy outside.

However, we could open this question up a bit more and also ask, do the changing seasons inspire you musically or lyrically ( I'm betting they do for many) and does your musical output ebb and flow with the seasons ?

I really don't like the cold and when I retired I always thought I'd go some place inexpensive  and warm to live, but here I'm living in Chicago  (expensive, very high taxes, a lot of murders etc... and of course the weather). In the last 5 years more people have left than have relocated here.  The wife is not old enough to retire and is very ambitious..... she got a better working opportunity so here we are.

So yes, I am looking forward to spring - I've got those old winter blues

I actually miss the winter living down here in New Jersey now. I spent my formative years "living in the country" in the state of Vermont and I spent as much time as possible in the mountains during the winter months......snowshoeing in the back country often times with skis strapped to a backpack frame. I have experience wind chills of -70 degrees (F).

there is nothing like being alone in (on top of) deep snow in the deep woods on a crystal clear winter day with below zero temps. The quiet is mesmerizing.  :)

But I do like spring as well.

My music output does not seem to be seasonally related.

Definitely looking forward to spring! :) ...and I've just recalled our 'Spring' collab  @Bill from November Sound  &  @Mar T.

...Winter over here is usually not that bad... however, we've just experienced a very strange February, lots of rain and hail (which is not common here) and gale force winds! (which kept on blowing on days on end and uprooted trees, set cows loose (!), blew fish onto the streets (!), flooded basements close to shore etc).... so yes, sunshine and warmer weather would be nice :D

@Leonard Scaper  my parents have a place up in the Northeast Kingdom up around Barton ..... I've been in -20 before and it is intense.

@Vince   Chicago was crazy cold this winter!!!!! Everybody is leaving CT as well .... mostly due to taxes &  taxes & more taxes

Well @Bill from November Sound we had a strange winter here in the Netherlands. We've had some cold and snow, that was average. Normally winter lasts untill way into march. Last week however, it has been 20 degrees (Celcius = 68 degrees F) and fully sunny here. That's not been recorded sinds the beginning of measuring (back in 1900). So that was a week of unusual early spring. Next week it will be colder, rainshowers and storm here. So we had a sneak peak, hope to see Spring back soon ;-)
How's the weather in your place?
Aaah Sunlit Bloom, that was a niiiice collab with @Rachel_D and yourself.. Still listen to it regularly! Fantastic what a few musicians across the globe can create online!
Cheers!

OMG @Dutchbeat    :bonk:   :doublebonk:       What is that?!?!   LOL!!!!

Well @Mar T.  usually we get snow. Since 2011 big snows sometimes up to 3ft.  ( 91 cm)  … this year mostly ice and rain and yesterday just 2 inches ( 5 cm)  … weird? Sometimes really cold to us less than 20F ( -6C) but other days pretty warm.

It's just dark so early so I can't do anything outside after work and that wears on me. That's why I'm looking forward to Spring.
I don't know what that video up there was all about. ;)

We just got 16" (41cm) of snow this week all in one fall. I live in the woods so it took several hours to clean up. More snow falling today.  :-\

Just thought I'd join in here, because I love spring. The winters here in Ohio seem so grey, but I enjoy a pretty snowfall, and when we do get a sunny day (on top of the snow) it's very nice to see.  I find warmer weather motivates me (probably most people) but sunshine does the best job, regardless of the season.  My energy seems to determine the feel of what I write.  The fresh smell of  spring is wonderful.  All that being said, fall is my favorite!  :)

Recent time change here. Not sure where else in the world the time changes. We lose an hour of sleep. I'm feeling it. Not a bad winter here but winter is winter.  I think I'm just tired of  everything.  Probably doesn't help that  I get up at least three times every night all through the night.......I'm fast tuning into a miserable curmudgeon . Too much work. No time to play. Running low on energy. Winter is pretty here but  I think it greatly affects my mood . I even bought one of those artificial lights that's supposed to simulate real sunlight.  I have wanted to lay down though and just not get back up, for like 1 year or maybe forever. It'll pass. I'm prone to it.  I keep going with my daily routine many times just going through the motions. I am a creature of change that hasn't seen any in a long long time.
I like  Spring, I think things will begin to turn around soon. Better days ahead.

Bill, I can't imagine  what it must be like where you live. Your area generally gets way more  snow than mine does which probably tends to drag toward Springtime. I remember those few bad winters we had here where you would clean up the snow and it would come again the following night to clean up the next morning. That doesn't seem so bad unless it goes on like that for months at a time, just makes a man weary in the bones even if you own a snowblower or have a  plow. I guess if you can stay inside it's better, but someone still needs to go out and clean it all up.  I'm from the deep south, we didn't know what snow was lol.
This was taken back in 2016 here- I don't miss it. I don't think we had more than maybe 12-15" this year total.
