Winter Mornings
« on: January 07, 2018, 14:20:27 »
As the inimitable bard, Van Morrison, so eloquently said........this winter morning was "as sweet as two below, honey"!  ;)

Ahhhhh......, nice. We donít Get that kind of beautiful nice and quiet frost.
Only 20 kilometers away from the North Sea, thatís the reason. The North Sea being a rather wide rivier between the UK and the European mainland.

The water in the North Sea is mostly coming from the Gulf of Mexico. It evens out out the climate over here in the Netherlands.
Minus 2, like Van said, but with wind force 6 or 7 from the North east. Think Finland and the noteren part of Russia.

Iím not Sure that thatís what he had in mind.

Enjoy your weather while you can!
Kind regards, Gus

Very nice pic, wish we had snow here! But where's your snowman @Leonard Scaper;D
If you like novels with a musical theme, why not try 'Sixth Beatle - When Music Changed The World', easily found on Amazon and Google. It is amazing, although as the author I may be biased!

@LePlongeur ....I would sorely miss the winter.

Here is that Van Morrison quote about being as sweet as two below, honey.  ;)

Two snowmen in a garden. One says to the other 'Do you smell carrots?'  ;D  (The joke from my Christmas Dinner Cracker this year!)

I listened to that Van Morrison track, thanks - really good. I'm not sure he'll ever do anything much outside of our kitchen though. Sounds like he's trying to be a cross between Van Halen and Morrissey with that name. That's gotta change for a start!  ;)

It just seems deary and grey in the UK at present and relatively mild.  Nature seems to be resting although there is already some evidence of Spring I think.

Wow cool picture @Leonard Scaper !! I read that it's a horror winter in the north of the US and Canada and that Trump is actually praying for some 'global warmth' these days..  :-\ :-\

Like @LePlongeur says, here in the Netherlands we don't have those ice-cold winters anymore.. We used to have them, but the last time was at least 13-15 years ago..
Cheers!!

Our snow all melted this weekend....it got really warm on Thursday and Friday.....rained....... and then it all froze!

The Connecticut River (and other rivers) had "Ice Jams" and it caused the rivers to flood. Then temperature dropped and the flood waters froze hard. Thankfully, I don't live near the river and I've never really heard of "Ice Jams" before this.
Now these massive sheets of ice are sliding up out of the river onto the banks, roads, buildings and homes.

Anyone else come across something like this?

Here, we should be getting snow again in a day or two. We actually enjoy having the four seasons. We do love snow!

Ice damming here in Trenton, NJ on the Delaware River has caused road closings. The temperature went from -2 a week ago Sunday to 62 on the following Friday and all that ice broke loose. Crazy winter weather.

Oh I guess here in CT we we call them "Jams" so as not to offend anyone.  ;D  :D
