Almost like a jazz trio
on: June 26, 2020, 15:35:45
Hi there.  :)  It's a cover.  :-\

I like jazz and this is almost like jazz. It is a cover of "It Could Happen to You" performed as a live trio in our home studio.

We haven't done one like this in a long time because it's kind of tricky to set it all up .... and because Will is older and kind of has his own life at times ...... but, anyway I like this arrangement we put together and I had fun doing it.
Will is playing Alesis DM8 E kit, Melissa is doing what she does and I'm playing left hand bass and right hand piano on a Yamaha MX88.

Bill
Songwriter, Keyboards, Arranger, Producer & Engineer for November Sound

November Sound is based on the Mother, Father & Son musical trio of Melissa, Bill & Will. I'm the father so anything I post will have my wife singing and/or my son playing percussion.

Amazingly Wonderful!! @Bill from November Sound  - good setup. And don't drummers always 'kind of have their own life'?  ::Dutch:: :pompom:

A tricky one to sing @Bill from November Sound ! Do I hear something Sarah Vaughnish? I really believe so.
I am not in a position to have an opinion on what you do. Keys make me nervous, unless they are the front door keys.
I completely believe @oorlab's analysis of drummers.
A lovely one to start off the weekend. It's spinning for the second time.
Kind regards, Gus

Absolutely fabulous! :pompom: :pompom: @Bill from November I love Jazz and this has all of the classic elements. Especially nice touch is the acoustic bass sound you are getting from keyboard 🎹... not just the sample quality but the bass lines themselves. When the camera moves away from the keyboard I instantly picture a standup bass player.

How do you get the various camera angles? Must be more than one camera but they are well hidden in the overall view. Great job with the editing.

Your family truly makes beautiful music together.  :praise:

Thanks @oorlab  ..... kind of a play on words. Meaning kids grow up and don't merely do what their parents do.  ;)
But yes real drummer adds a lot of life!

Thanks @LePlongeur ! We do love Sarah Vaughn ..... but not not sure if she's consciously doing that. Melissa kind of does her own sound.
Like I said we're not really "jazz" jazz but we do it for fun.

Jazz jazz, happy jazz @Bill from November Sound ? Does the one sort exclude the other?
And specially, when you are just having fun, what’s wrong with letting your heroes sound through your music.

While ‘playing’ I often pick a loose A string (B string for normal guitarists) in a melody line just because Gabor Szabo did that too. If you listen to Santana, you’ll hear the same trick in his music. Sounding entirely different, but with a very small identical detail now and then.

So my Vaugnish remark was meant as a compliment.
And now I must get my bread out of the oven.
Kind regards, Gus

Thank you @Dutchbeat  :) means a lot! Yes, Will & I actually have so much more going on in the music than is ever actually shown when the camera is rolling. Thank you!
Thanks for noticing all that @1roomstudio !   Yes 3 cameras!
The bass isn't a specific line that I play .... I just improvise the walk over the changes the way a jazz bass player would do. It's basically never ever the same part twice. I'm glad you could imagine it being real.
We really appreciate the kind words.
 :)
