I never did this.
But I gave several people I playfully coached over the years, the advice to chance it.
Specially if you want to test drive certain songs, it is a very easy and classy way to check out what form is working and what isnít.

Just because every 5 minutes thereís a complete change of public. So every 5 minutes all the cards are shuffled again and you have the chance to give it antother try.

And, while not everybody takes the time and patience to listen, you collect some money for your rehearsal.

David Peel and the Lower East side did their debut LP for Elektra this way. Live in the streets of New York.
Happy Mothers day David. This being one of the favorites of the album.

The title of the LP? Have a marijuana!

And thatís my second suggestion: record what you play. The play back will give you valuable info about what you did and the feed back you got from the audience.
Good hunting!
Kind regards, Gus

Hi @Dutchbeat - we had an amazing busking experience recently. I set up a series of flashmobs in Newcastle and Gateshead where we sang and played harmonicas on the Geordie anthem "Blaydon Races". Someone from the cheese shop in a market where we did it uploaded a video to facebook. Somehow it went viral and people were coming up to us for weeks after saying they had seen our video. At last count it was over 1.25 million hits. I just wish my own songs would take off like that!

Not sure how to share the video, but here are a couple of places to find it: https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/whats-on/music-nightlife-news/blaydon-races-singalong-newcastle-market-14770192 and
Working for the Bellmetal Banana Company

Ha wow, thanks @redmando , I enjoyed that ! Did you get many random members of the public joining in?

Pleased you enjoyed it @DanJames - we played at 9 iconic spots around Newcastle and Gateshead and got some great crowd interaction. It's such a well known song that most people around here at least know the first verse and chorus and they sang or clapped along. Unfortunately we didn't get to play outside St.James' Park (Newcastle United's ground) as Ed Sheeran was playing there that afternoon and evening.

Yeah, I busk, somewhat erratically but it's fun when it's a nice day and people are in the mood for some songs. You tend to get in the zone and forget your troubles. It's a bonus when people are feeling generous with their money too!

I tend to get people sitting in cafes nearby watching me, and many Japanese tourists filming me. lol

I live in a very touristy area where you have to apply and audition for a permit to busk and you can only do it in certain specific locations. When I first auditioned just over a year ago, there were 600 applicants for my area, 100 auditions and only 5 permits given.

I got one. 😎

With our choir we've been been involved in a flashmob in Liverpool this Summer with our choir and singing outside Lincoln train station with the BBC in attendance. Not for money so maybe not classed as true busking perhaps but it is a different vibe to normal inside gigs.

We do get to sing outside from time to time, like food and gift fairs and the the Lincolnshire show, and more train stations and fancy garden centres at Christmas,m that sort of thing in the past.

It's always fun when the portable speaker that's playing your backing track conks out and you end up singing 'a cappella'.

hey @MrBouzouki  ... will your flashmob end up on YouTube or something ... I always like watching those.
It will be cool when I watch one and I can say, "Hey, I know that guy!" :)

Came across this clip and thought that it was too smartly busking to keep it for myself.

Enjoy.
And why not start busking yourself?
Kind regards, Gus

I haven't personally, all my shows have been in venues. But this guy puts on a performance and a half! I'm not normally one to watch most street performers, but I would have watched him.

Back door? I just hit register and I was in. I didn't realise it was supposed to be a secret society. ;)
