Save Your Last Dream For Me (Live)
on: December 03, 2019, 12:27:20
With my muse on a well deserved early holiday break I have been spending a lot of time just playing some of my songs. It felt so good that this weekend I set up a couple of microphones in the studio and recorded a few of them.....warts and all.

I then just tried to simulate a larger room environment with some subtle processing.

Here's one of them that some of you have heard here before as a studio version:

@Bill from November Sound .....I'm glad you gave this one a listen. I don't do live stuff like this very often.....definitely going to do more as I look through the back pages of my catalog.

@Jurgen ........thanks to you for checking this one out as well. Thanks for that about the balance. I don't often go to two microphones but this recording had a good feel to it.

 :) :) :)

Probably not @Bill from November Sound .......I'm not really set up for that here. I just really enjoy the studio recording aspect of all this.

A very clear warm vocal recording @Leonard Scaper - guitar rings out nicely too.
I like the concept and execution... most of all I enjoyed the song, the melody and sentiments expressed.

Um, I didnít hear any warts on this recording, but I guess the performer always knows where the warts are. Sounded very clear, warm, and sincere......like it very much. Thanks for sharing!

This is gorgeous @Leonard Scaper  -  it's very well performed and the vocal is stunning. Your sweet spot for sure - "you're free" at 0.18... wow - that spot is particularly beautiful.. Lovely song and there's something special about this performance.. Love the way you close it out - class!

Wonderful stuff, Steve!

@robertkc ....thanks for that appreciation, my friend.

@Kolohe ....smiling. I guess I get too caught up in the studio stuff sometimes. That's why this one was good for me to do. I truly appreciate your kind words.

@Zedd .....I'm so glad you got a chance yt hear this one, Karen. This song does sit right in a special place for me.

I do two sorts of songs.
A slow one.
And one even slower.
And I do them better than anybody else.

You have five songs.
One with one guitar.
One with two.
One with three.
One with two and extra noise.

And now also one live.
I really donít register the difference. They are all your songs. Immediately recognizable. Doesnít get any better, really.

Still puzzled about where live differs from the rest, beautifully clear and warm and a class all its own.
Glad for you you have a muse. Donít know where the muse fits in, but as long as youíre happy and keep Ďem coming, iím Fine.

Kind regards for the muse and you.....

@LePlongeur .......you very definitely do your songs better than anyone else ever could, Gus. ;) :) 8)

I don't do this type of song very often, that is, just play the entire song in one take and refrain from adding any additional instrumentation. I see that as a bit of a weakness. Out of all those songs on my Soundclick site I bet I could only actually sit down right now and play a dozen or so.

Years ago, when I first started doing songs with multiple tracks, I billed myself as a band......Lenny and the Scapers.  8) Even the name Len Scaper was born from a bit of silliness back in the 70's when I first started writing and recording. I was a young landscaper back then, playing with a couple of bands and sometimes playing my originals between sets, and the whole writing thing was a bit of a lark so a nom de plume felt....appropriate.

These days I am trying to keep things a bit more real.

Steve

I often feel a connection with the instrument in live work. I can feel it here. I feel it is difficult to replicate this connection when recording multitrack. I'm listening on my shitty speaker on my old laptop and it's very clear. Now listening again on the headphones... ... sounds crisp. Well done
