This is how a live performance is done

I'm disappointed that Wilf Owen didn't get the hits that he (or his estate) deserves.  This is a great party piece of mine, played on the piano with or without the script..     It also shows a few salutary lessons about playing live:......

1. You will always hit a wrong key and play a wrong note

2. You will always, at some point, be out of sync with the rhythm

3. You will always forget lyrics and erm/um/etc until you catch-up with where you should be

4. The mix alway sucks when you play live.

Cover your ears and get ready to wince at the off-key vocals !

its one of my favourite poems ever mate - you know this isn't bad at all - there is a certain charm in the arrangement and melody - sounds kind of timeless and poignant  :)

good song...
once again

and very alive
yes!
is your choice for live, raw and honest, the only one you want

i mean, i wonder, do you object polishing and recording in multiple takes all together

or do you just prefer to do live and in one take
i mean exclusively want to do real live takes?

"nice party piece there mister haha!"

Indeed !  I'm a party piano player -  I don't really take it too seriously - hence the reason I don't faff around with the production side.   It's my way of expressing my creativity and it only goes so far :-(

But if it entertains (and amuses!) then that's cool !

@kafla... i've loved this poem since junior school and I am slowly working my way through his repertoire, so expect more from the great man Wilf :-)

Every kitchen needs a wild and unpredictable spice.....

John,

I'd love to hear your musical take on Wilfred Owen's poem 'Futility'.  :)

I'll play it now if you want WD, but Futility is only 12 lines long...... so it's not really song material, unless i stretch it out
but since he wrote this poem whilst recovering in England..... he is nowhere near the war, so there is no emotion.
so there is no poem
sorry

12 lines could be enough  ;D ;D ;D

that for me is two verses (four lines each) and four more left for a 'chorus'  ;D ;D ;D

that i would repeat endlessly
till it becomes a torture

but tell, me do you make these things almost right away with the lyrics / poem in front of you???

that is pretty cool, but why not go back then and record it more precise and neat

that can be fun too...

DB....... there is nothing fun about sitting in front of a computer using a mouse and some keyboard short-cuts to construct a song........ I'm certainly not a luddite, but to me the joy is playing the real instrument, and Logic / Garageband etc is not real.  I'd love my songs to be more clean, crisp, professional and more of a product, but that is not something I can do :-(

Now, if you are offering to produce...... ;D ;D ;D
