All of Me - Prog Rock Collab idea
on: October 01, 2017, 16:53:55
« Last Edit: October 01, 2017, 17:47:49 by MrBouzouki »
I recently heard the playing of a guy named Dave Zeitlin who from his bio has been playing since he was a youngster and is fully into Prog Rock music.

To get an idea of his ability hear this take on Bach

https://soundcloud.com/dee-zee/prelude-for-piano-and-organ

Well the muse has been at work and a set of lyrics has fallen out of my head after hearing this track

https://soundcloud.com/dee-zee/the-slowness-of-sloths

Yep a weird title, but some fantastic playing and it's inspired me to re-invent it as "All of Me".
My first full draft of the lyrics was just finished today and I'm feeling giddy.  ::OSMAN:: ::OSMAN:: ::OSMAN::

I've been in contact and he is keen to hear what I've come up with so fingers crossed I can do a good job.

All of Me
(P Goodrich 01/10/2017)

(Chorus)
Catch a falling star and see
That you’re getting, all of me
Trying to be more than friends
A happiness that, never ends

All of Me (power chords)

Being free is fine,
You never get the time,
To get to know that someone who might love you
One more empty day
Seconds tick away
And loneliness it cuts you with a knife

(Chorus)
Catch a falling star and see
That you’re getting, all of me
Trying to be more than friends
A happiness that, never ends

All of Me (power chords) All of Me

There’s a certain smile
It might take a while
To feel your heart and mine can come together
Looking for a way
Each and every day
So you can know the feelings in my mind

{SOLO}

(Chorus)
Catch a falling star and see
That you’re getting, all of me
Trying to be more than friends
A happiness that, never ends

All of Me, (power chords) All of Me,

All of Me

Good lyrics, MrB.....I will be looking forward to hearing this collaboration as it (hopefully) moves forward.
"The main thing is to have a gutsy approach....but use your head." Julia Child

"In a world of robotic conformity, the only originality left in music is the imperfections" Eric Craptone

"Special thanks to Steve Gleason for making me who I am today." Leonard Scaper

Cheers @Leonard Scaper - in some ways I think it might be a little mushy for modern ears but it arrived almost fully formed again from the ether so somebody must be sending me messages ... lol
The guys playing inspired me and it's a great feeling when you can conjure up a response in this way. It's also nice to be writing again, I fairly fertile on the writing front at present :-)

Ah, mushiness be damned, these look like good lyrics!  ;D

But the title...there's a serious existing cheese-fest which shares that title:

I'm sure you know, and there's probably not much that can be done now, but I thought I'd make you aware.

I know about Mr Legend of course. In fact we performed it in one of our choir concerts not so long ago.
As I told Mrs Bouzouki, who also mentioned the title, it came of of the idea of people nowadays perhaps being much
more independent and perhaps steering clear of relationships as a result.
I also had to fit a song around an existing instrumental so that tied my hands a bit.

Just started a bit of vocal work to get into the zone for this track.
Here is the end section of lyric. I've had some positive vibes back from Dee Zee so that's a good start.
I've not really messed around with trying to add myself into the track properly at present.
This is more a VoX direction of travel example.

One question is "get-ting all of me" or "get - ing all of me" with less t emphasis on the second syllable ?

That's a great start to getting those vocals in there, MrB. I think the more "informal" get-ing might work better but I guess I'd have to hear it. You'll know which one feels right I think come production time.

I thought I'd continue posting here as opposed to the review thread as it's only a short sample.

I'm quite pleased with how this collaboration project is coming on as it's the first time I've not organically grown some multi-part vocals but actually worked out in advance what I wanted to do.
This is the Vox part in isolation.

http://www.pgmain.co.uk/kitchen/All_Of_Me_Harmony_Vox.mp3

As always there is no electronic adjusting, it's all me singing it until I get it right. The high part is just me in falsetto not electronically adjusted. I feel it sounds a bit false if you do that.
Getting the rhythm right was harder than the note pitching to be honest. The falls had to be precise so you didn't get a weird harmony.

All this choir singing has meant I'm quite good at hearing somebody else sing and locking into them.  In this case the 'somebody else' was me.

I like this quite a bit! I've got a sweet spot for rock, and this hits that spot!  ::headphone::
Hey, it's cheaper than therapy.
