Compared to what I write, Eminem writes lullabies.
According to me, Eminem's definitely not OK.
His is just an opinion @Dutchbeat, but do you really think the lyricists should consider E. as THE yardstick?
I really don't think so.
And, yes, that's just an opinion too.

How cold is his brain (if any) that he wears a hoody and a hat?
In short, I'm not impressed by E.'s artistic value. And his walk of life.
But thank you anyway for posting.
Kind regards, Gus

Thank you for posting this, @Dutchbeat:) Not only does Em make good points with regard to rhyming specifically in the  hip-hop/rap genre but the video is also hilarious in its own right.  ;D

rules are just ways to stop us from writing “three chords suck”, never rhyme, don’t write sad songs.... it’s all just stuff to get in your way....

Gus @LePlongeur will be please and you will be shocked @Dutchbeat,  that I am blissfully unaware of who Eminem actually is beyond he is some sort of rapping person. I don't actually think I will watch this video, no offence Dutchbeat, as I think I want to keep it that way.

So I agree with @lu77, hi by the way,  and agree rules like this just get in the way of what you want to do musically.

Set your muse free and make your own rules ... that seems to be the way around these parts anyhow ;-)

Hi @Dutchbeat  I think if he has a point (a mind is a terrible thing to waste) is  it seems most inner city youth wants to be a rapper/gangsta  and with cheap technology you can record and post  anything - An American expression is I think he's just yanking their chain.  ;D

Apropos my previous comment:  The fact is that he's not so much spouting 'rules' about how or what to write, but is advising on how to write better rap/hiphop lyrics by not resorting to the same old tired clichés. Rather than limiting expression, he's trying to open up possibilities for rap/hip-hop writers. ;) He wants them to give more thought to saying something in an original manner, rather than relying on the way something has been said a thousand times before. Predictability is boring.  ;)

As in any other genre, the more surprise rhymes there are in a lyric, the more potential these lines have to be memorable. It keeps listeners/readers on their toes.

For me, underneath the video's tomfoolery (parts of which had me laughing out loud) there's a useful message. ;)

(Just a pity he said/shouted 'rule' rather than 'guideline'. ;) )

I can agree with this post without reservation.
I can't recognize em as being an authority on anything other than being em.
His output and public persona I find repulsive.
