Tides
on: March 18, 2019, 12:58:40
I've been inspired this morning and had 'one of the moments' where some words just arrive out of the ether.

I was captivated by this beautiful guitar instrumental piece by my mate Alan Catton on SoundCloud  entitled Tides

https://soundcloud.com/alan-catton/tideswav

I think i will contact him and see if would be interested in a collaboration

Tides (P Goodrich 18/03/19)

I watch the tides
The ebb and flow
A restless calling
For those who know
A  broken heart
A lonely walk
The tides take all
And leave me all alone

I watch the tides
The ebb and flow
Reliving memories
Of long ago
Of When we kissed
And when we loved
The tides take all
And leave me all alone

(Chorus)
Once you said you loved me
Once you said you cared
But now my heart is aching
And my tears they won't wash away

I watch the tides
The ebb and flow
I often wonder
Where did you go
As darkness falls
The light it fades
The tides take all
Here in the afterglow

(Chorus)
Once you said you loved me
Once you said you cared
But now my heart is aching
And my tears they won't wash away

I watch the tides ...
I watch the tides ...
I watch them flow

I love these lyrics.  I can see it...watching the ocean, hearing the waves, feeling the emotions of those thoughts.  A touching picture.  Very nice.
Do what makes your heart sing :)

I must say that this came as a surprise.
Normally I stay away from all the ‘watch the river flow’ and ‘watch the ebb and whatever’ sort of lyrics, but this one is an exception. Some how all the watery pieces came together and made sense.

A very elegantly longing thing you’ve written @MrBouzouki !!!
It came as a surprise, but a very peasant one too.
I am really curious what this collab will turn out to be. I hope you will let us in on it.
Very nice piece of work!
Kind regards, Gus

Cheers @Kellyanneg -forty minutes of time and it was there laid out before me.

Cheers Gus @LePlongeur  - the cadence of Alan's playing and title just took me way and I quite like the idea of the tides ebbing and flowing suggesting loss, the slate wiped clean, but maybe not as the pain of lost love cannot always be erased as easily.

A fairly simple idea in some ways, with repeating bits but I think it adds to the strength as the repeating lyric almost echoes the ebb and flow of nature.

Time and Tide wait for no man and all that ;-)

I got an e-mail back from Alan who is happy for me to have a crack at this. I'm a bit humbled in some ways given his level of ability.
Still l need to remember that all of us on here are songwriters and lyricists and not everybody can do what we almost take for granted.

Quite excited to see what happens with this  ::thumb:: ::thumb:: ::thumb::

Alan is a gifted guitarist (and flautist) - you can check out some of his work here

@MrBouzouki

I talked my way through the lyric instead of trying to sing them ..and the lyric worked
very well with that simple step, good flow, and cadence I think always works I think.
no doubt a keeper .    Lane
