Hey guys.
on: September 04, 2018, 00:19:46
My name is Will.  I'm a singer/songwriter/musician that's not a good a singer as my family says I am (I personally think they're too polite to be that honest).  Anyway, I do lyrics and my own music (piano 8 years and guitar 3 years both when I was growing up).  I picked guitar back up while I was active duty military (medically retired Marine here, 15 1/2 years) and been playing it since about 2005 and I just got back into the piano specifically for the purpose of writing.  I'm write almost predominantly country, Christian and some rock (more like country rock) but not in that order.  Always looking to co-write.  I've never co-written before so I'm really looking forward to the opportunity.  Hit me up.  Thanks.

Hey @Will ,

Thanks for the introduction. And a big welcome to the kitchen, you found the right place!
Take a look around, and feel free to post one of your songs in the „songs for review“ section. I'm curious about your music! :)

Cheers,

Hi @Will ! Welcome to the kitchen! You are in the right place. ( + I can't believe that the name Will was available .... that's really cool! )
Where are you from?

Hitting you up, when you’re medically retired or something, doesn’t seem like the best of all ways to make friends with you.... @Will (only joking of course).
I guess you’re from the US. And now looking back, I see that bill asked you the same.
Sorry. Please be aware that this is a fusion kitchen, a world wide kitchen with (also) people who are not English spoken from day 1.

Well, anyway, welcome! Thanks for your intro. I would be glad if you told us what you want to do with your music. It’s nice to have your family support you. Maybe I can come play for your family since mine is too busy painting, doing ceramics etc.
I have done a serious period of religious music and I do still have a friend who plays in church every week. Is that what you want to do ultimately?

Yes, questions questions....
Don’t let it hold you back. I’m not only curious about the why’s and whatfores. I am also curious about what you’ll let us listen to when you post a song.
Kind regards, Gus

Thanks for the welcome guys.  I'm looking forward to start posting here real soon (probably end of this week).  I was born overseas, but raised (mostly) in Pennsylvania.  After bouncing all over the place (both stateside and throughout the world), I've settled here in Missouri.  I've been writing pretty intensely the last few weeks, which doesn't include what I've been writing the last few years (obviously).  I've had 1 demo done a few years back "My Heart Didn't Bother to Break" that I haven't done anything with (not really sure why now that I'm getting back into it).  My first song that I wrote "Only Broken Promise" was written after I returned from Iraq (2005).  A great friend/brother (Marine) was killed in Iraq by a suicide bomber at a security checkpoint outside of Baghdad (2005).  This song was my song saying what I think he would've said to his family since he didn't make it back.  I never had a demo made for it, but plan to soon.

I plan to take my songwriting MUCH further this time.  I plan on many more demos ( at least until I get good enough on the console to make mine myself) and I'm hoping to make numerous relationships doing co-writing (lyrically and musically).  I've never really written a "country rock" song, but a few might consider "My Heart Didn't Bother to Break" that song, but I'd like to write a few more.  It was pretty fun to write and I wasn't expecting the response that I got from it.

I'll start posting lyrics here soon to both new and old stuff I've recently found.  I'll have to check, but I'm sure there's also a place to post demos and/or "roughs" to get feedback.  I've got too many influences in different genres to mention.  I would like to take my Christian music and play it in church sometime.  One of my best Christian songs (at least I think it is) is "No One Else Comes Back Alive".   I've got to get my confidence where it needs to be.  I'm told (mostly by family) that my lyrics are really good (don't know if they're just being too polite, but I want some feedback from those who've never heard me before so that's where you guys come in).  I need to work on my music side of things, but it's getting much better over the years.  My wife is a pretty good critic since she's heard my progress over the years after I started writing (we hadn't even met when I first started writing) so she's a really good critiquer, but my father-in-law is someone that I can really count on for some unbiased feedback (besides you guys).  Anyway, this is getting long so I'll post, get some things done and be back.  Thanks again for the welcome.
