Hey there Songwriters!
on: June 25, 2018, 05:04:24
Hey all,

I'm thrilled to have found this forum and to be a new member. I just found it about from a songwriter on SoundCloud, who had recommended it as a great community. I can tell from browsing and listening that there are a lot of talented folks here that are passionate about music -- both in listening and creating it.

I live in the Chicago area, and I have a day job and a family, and until just a couple years ago, I was just an avid music listener of many types of music - modern pop, alt rock, rock, jazz, blues, hip-hop, and some classical once in a while (Chopin and Mendelssohn are favorites). By chance, I got an iPad mini during a work training class and I discovered Garageband and since then I've been just having a blast creating songs on it and trying to make them good enough to share with others.

So these days, when I need a break from long hours at work, I'll pop out the iPad Mini and just start creating, and see what happens. I played a bit of organ when I was a kid, and guitar for about 6 months when I was younger, and I would love to be able to play for real on a guitar or piano, but the tablet sure is convenient!

I've included a link below to one of my newer songs. It's a very rough draft with temp lyrics since I'm thinking of this forum as a place to develop songs, not advertise your stuff :)  If anyone would like to provide feedback, that is certainly welcome, however this is just to introduce my musical (or non-musical  ;D) inclinations.

Hey @EdZ314 ....Welcome to The Kitchen. In all of history this has to be the best time ever to be a songwriter, right? And you have discovered the very best place to share your creative endeavors. Here at The Kitchen we have folks making new music on everything from a Shruti Box to an iPad Mini to....banging sticks on rocks.

I like what you are doing. Streets of Frisco has a cool jazzy uptempo thing happening. Definitely take a stroll through some other Kitchen threads to see what other folks are up to and I'm sure you'll find some further inspiration.

Welcome aboard @EdZ314 - this is the place to be for anybody interested in creating songs.
As others have said, with modern technology you can indulge in making something without necessarily having lots of time available to do it.
I've learnt quite a bit and broadened my musical horizons whilst being here. I hope you do the same :-)
