Hi I'm Rachel :)
on: October 02, 2015, 23:38:20
Hi  :),

I am Rachel. I love writing poems and songs and have been experimenting with words and their sounds since I was around 10 years old (-that's been 15 years now). I create songs in my spare time - usually the urge to write something new tends to come in phases sometimes it lays dormant and then, after its absence suddenly springs back to life; when least expecting or when most in need. I am still fascinated by the times when the words and melody seem to come out spontaneously at one go - almost out of nothing (rather than going through a logical sequence of creation) :) ...Probably you have experienced something similar as well...

Most of my songs are short (1 to 2 minute concept songs) and are roughly recorded in my bedroom using my phone. I call them poem-songs. You can hear my latest uploaded song here: https://soundcloud.com/rachel_debattista/the-sound-of-your-love-rougher-recording. I think it is a bit different from my previous songs, this is a link to some of the rest: https://soundcloud.com/rachel_debattista.

I look forward to your feedback ...and to discovering your works :)

Rachel

and btw, i already said this to you via Soundcloud, but that track called: the sound of your love is really very strong in my opinion, a very nice (and catchy) singing melody....i love it

and the track is followed by another version of that track with harmony vocals, really nice...if you would want some help with making the production and sound bigger and the track a bit longer, i am sure there will be people out here who would like to try to mix it further, well....... i would like to  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Thank you Zedd, MartiMedia, Fischermans and Dutchbeat for all your kind words and for welcoming me to your kitchen :) Your positive comments are really encouraging :)

@ MartiMedia - I am from Malta (it is a small sunny island in the middle of the Mediterranean sea). In 'real life' I am an architect and civil engineer (I design buildings, interiors and structural design.) As you can see I love 'creating' :).

@ Dutchbeat - I really appreciate your belief in my latest song! :) Yes, I would be interested in improving it. I am very new to the realm of 'completing' a song. I have spent most of my life creating songs without any instruments- just me and my voice (while waiting for the bus or after work). Moreover, I haven't really had the time to learn an instrument the 'proper' way either. I have just 'learnt' playing my synthesizer  through experimentation and never really knowing whether it is the right way to do it. So I do need help and it would be great if you could help me out to produce a better version :D

PS Version 2 was quite a quick experiment too, I am no expert with harmony vocals and that was just an improvisation which seemed to be sounding well together. It would be helpful to learn how it could be improved :)

Thanks once again to everyone,
Rachel

Wow Rachel, that must be a nice place to live on Malta!! Ow yeah so creating is in your blood, maybe you can share a few pictures of some buildings you designed? I'm curious!
I feel you landed on the right forum here, we all want to improve and we like helping and collaborating with each other. Thanks for your visit to my SoundCloud page and leaving some really nice comments!
Think you should thinking about investing in some recording gear (essentially a good mic and a good recording interface on a computer) to record vocals. Really like your vocal tone!
Maybe we can collab some day?

@MartiMedia: Yes, Malta is quite a pleasant place to live in. It tends to be small and so certain opportunities (especially those related to the arts and music) can be somewhat limited at times. But it has advantages - mostly the weather and the sea :) (The display picture for the song 'The sound of your love' is actually a photo I took here two weeks ago)

...Regarding architecture - most of my recent works are confidential, but I can show you an earlier university project- I had chosen to design a concert hall for the national philharmonic orchestra. (I am attaching two pictures - I will attach the second picture in a new post due to the 'one per post restriction'). It is located on a peninsula surrounded by the sea and adjacent to an existing historic building (the building on the right in Pic 1 is the old building). I also took part in some creative building workshops such as the Plate pavilion which was exhibited at the Malta Design week: https://design-milk.com/plate-pavilion-malta-design-week/.

I have been thinking about investing in some equipment and have recently bought:
a microphone similar to this one - https://north-america.beyerdynamic.com/shop/tg-v30d-s.html
and this interface: https://tascam.com/product/us-122mkii/
(However, I am still at the early 'experimentation stage' and am trying to figure out which settings and knobs I should best be using  :P.

...Yes, I am interested in collaborating :)

Hi Rachel, wow, amazing, beautiful concert hall you designed! Thanks for sharing!
Yes I can imagine the advantages of Malta!!
Think you bought a good audio interface! If you have questions about recording please ask! And we all will help!
Wow yes let's collab someday when we have the chance (maybe in one of the kitchen's competitions?), will be great!

Ha Rachel, great pictures and great design!!

and Malta sounds like a great place, unfortunately i never been there

that the sound of your love track you made has a great vocal melody and lyrics, you should make it into a full lenght arrangment and it deserves a more in the face and full mix, a very nice song with a highly contagious cathy-ness (which is great)

i would love to work on adding things on that, so just suggest some things, and if you don't like them, you just press delete

@MartiMedia: Thanks a lot! ... Yes, a collaboration at the kitchen competition sounds interesting! :) How often do you have competitions? (because I haven't really figured out how they work yet)

« Last Edit: October 04, 2015, 17:38:06 by it must be me, Dutchbeat? »
we haven't found out how are competitions work yet either  ;D ;D ;D, but we usually start with deciding what the songwriting challenge or competition is going to be about first, and here is the current menu with competition options......yes, they are really weird this time, but you can select what sounds remotely intersting to you in this recent poll:
https://www.songwriter-forum-kitchen.com/new-board-18/what-about-having-a-really-bizarre-songwriting-challenge/

and once we decided what the challenge will be, i usually get to make up the rules as we go along  ;D ;D ;D ;D, and i never win so i think i am objective.... ;D ;D ;D ;D or my songwriting is just bad  ;D ;D ;D ;D

but yes, it is time for a new songwriting challenge....

@ Dutchbeat: Thank you for your replies and for the information regarding the competitions. I voted in your poll :) Yes, some do sound weird but the unconventionality does tend to make it more interesting :P :)

RE: 'Sound of your love' - I'm not sure where best to start.... Can I send you the current recording? or do I need to lengthen the song first before you can work on it?
