Chromakey (Green / Blue screen) adventures
on: September 04, 2018, 11:06:27
I've just purchased a simple Chromakey Green /Blue screen off Amazon as I want to experiment with picture in picture overlaying of playing instruments over a video background.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MZZO9T5/ref=s9_acsd_simh_hd_bw_b4dLY_c_x_1_w?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-3&pf_rd_r=5B35Y3BJG7JANK9XXZVY&pf_rd_r=5B35Y3BJG7JANK9XXZVY&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=55519a84-e462-506c-850b-ca2ea7f73f6f&pf_rd_p=55519a84-e462-506c-850b-ca2ea7f73f6f&pf_rd_i=1104564

You know the thing, a ghostly overlay of somebody strumming a guitar over some video footage.

Has anybody got any tips / had any experience in doing this.

It seems another interesting artistic endeavour  that will no doubt swallow up lots of time.

Hey ( @MrBouzouki ) yes I have a little bit experience with it  ;) ;)
All I know is that when expirimenting you can get great effects. Even better when you buy a green screen that's so big that you can stand right up and walk through the scene..
I used Adobe Premiere to key-out the green. Be careful to not wear green when filming your shots, because then suddenly you dont have legs or torso anymore
Looking forward to some results, you'd share them with us won't you?

Cheers!

Hi @MrBouzouki
I have also done this a couple of times. The most important thing is a good, regular lighting of the greenscreen. The easiest way to achieve this is to go out into the daylight. The greenscreen should be nicely stretched and not wavy or wrinkled, so that you get a colour surface that is as smooth  as possible. If you pay attention to this, removing the green background with a keyer will be a piece of cake.
If you want the result to be as realistic as possible, things get a little more complicated. Then you have to make sure that the object (yourself) is illuminated in the same way (and from the same direction) as the background footage. You will have to tinker a lot with the color and contrast settings etc...
Also be aware that you will not cast any shadow in the finished video.
Have fun experimenting. I am looking forward to see the results! :)
Cheers,
Mark

Cheers folks - I will certainly post anything I manage to achieve.

It's arrived and it's like one of those tents as it folds away nicely into a smaller storage bag.

I've past the first test of being able tot get it out and more importantly put it away  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
