Title: Chasing Fame (live performance)
Post by: onemanband on June 03, 2014, 22:45:29
Hello -

The inspiration for this song came from reading "keep the aspidistra flying" by George Orwell (I highly recommend it)

I have a million and one things I would want to do with this in a larger production, but I am pretty pleased with how it boils down onto an acoustic guitar aswell. I think in a bigger production it would touch closer to the three minute mark.

Any feedback is welcome - I am not happy with the second line or the second verse and will be changing it at some point.

Thanks for listening

Chasing Fame

Black on white - as  I write
another melody comes into sight
recognition is an ambition of mine
Step aside cause I'm short on time....!!

Smoking cigarettes to numb the hunger pains
They always said that its a numbers game
Well I've only got myself to blame
For running on fumes and chancing fame.

Flashback, to before I knew
That life is just atest that you've got to get through
looking back its funny in a way
I thought I had forever, and a day!!!

Smoking cigarettes to numb the hunger pains
They always said that its a numbers game
Well... I've only got myself to blame
For running on fumes and chancing fame.

Head of steam now -- here I go
I got to keep moving can't afford to slow (slide) down
carpe diem -- gong to sieze the day
I can't imagine living any other way..!!!

Smoking cigarettes to numb the hunger pains
They always said that its a numbers game
Well... I've only got myself to blame
For running on fumes and chancing fame.

Cool song and great that you just sit down and play this. You are cool.As I wrote on your other post (song) I would be happy to hear this with a proper recording.
1.08 - 1.25 is fantastic songwriting.

Thanks Dutch and Fish - glad you enjoyed it.

I don't see any fuller production coming anytime soon - I think I have reached the point where I realise that I get nothing but frustration from trying to mix and produce music. Plus I really enjoyed writing and performing this - so I think I might be uploading performances from now on.

Thanks for all the karma points Dutch. god knows I need them!

Good luck!

ah, just to be sure, i re-listened and watched this one man

and it is just so ridiculously good

it is all there and it impressing, it is so tight and right!! 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

 8) 8) 8)
needless to say, i would love to put a big drum etc on it

but i don't think that is what you are looking for, my style of mixing and adding too much (but i would love too)

but it is just all there already, very passionate and tight playing and singing

i take my hatt off for this!!!!! what a cool live track and video!!

* edit, listening and watching again, WHAT a track!

Great tune OMB, I like it a lot, especially loving the nylon guitar (they are under loved by most people I've come across, it's all steel steel steel  >:( )

Loads of energy, loads of clout, very ballsy

Excellent!

Wow - i'm out breath after listening to this OMB!

I like that you've done a Kafla and given us a raw and real live recording from home.  This really does personalise the song and help build the kitchen as a personable and familial place to hang out :-)

Your songwriting is awesome, "Smoking cigarettes to numb the hunger pains" is a great lyric, as it "For running on fumes and chasing fame".    I'm still trying to fully reconcile this with George Orwell, but the fact that the book has influenced you is enough for me to want to pop down to Waterstones and buy a copy.

Production wise - probably slow it down a bit as the emotion is lost in the rapid-fire delivery.  Other than that - well done for a great and entertaining track  :) :)

ha, me again, just wanting to say, i agree with Jcmac

the lyrics (which i normaly don't pay enough respect too, but i am Dutch) are excellent beyond believe

and all of it , guitar playing, singing melody, are all simply ace

but the high tempo is also an essential part of the shock and awe of how good this is
i think... :P
so, i disagree on that

i would say..
don't slow it down
 :P 8) :P :P :o :o :o :o
but, clearly, what a nice work this song and video is!!

This is insanely good in every respect  ;D

Your guitar work is awesome but it would be even better on a non classical

But hats off , well tipped in your direction sir 😝
