Title: Wondering Where You Are
Post by: Jurgen on August 03, 2019, 03:39:59
hi,

I wrote a song 2-3 years ago that I never really managed to sing very well. I was very lucky to have @oorlab sing it for me - he did a great job and that version is here https://soundcloud.com/jurgen-joarder/wondering-where-you-are-ft-oorlab

I've removed some of the words (the intro mainly) but rest is about the same just much more basic.

I now play this song in my band (Driving South) set and it's taken a long time to get a version we like that.

This is the way we play it right now - now I'm comparing the two, it's very different...

That's pretty cool @Jurgen . 1 - It's a nice song! 2- I'm happy for you doing your own music now!  3 - that's a really fancy place you're playing!
Are you in the city?
You know I'm into video making so -
Did you choose black & white due to camera focus issues, or lighting, or just because it looks cool?

Hi @Bill from November Sound thanks for the comments on the song.

The venue is a lawn bowls club - they are/were pretty big in Australia but mainly for older retired people. So to try and get a younger audience a lot of them put on live bands. This club is just down the road from me and right on the ocean so in Summer you see the ocean from stage out the windows.

I'm in Sydney but on the coast (not far from Bondi which is the main beach everyone has heard of).

Thanks @Leonard Scaper - appreciate you listening/watching

cheers

So @Jurgen I see now that you are in full color at a pretty low saturation ....I originally thought it was black & white.
That venue looks amazing ... and an ocean view? Wow!

Oh yes, I meant to reply your video question @Bill from November Sound ...

The videos are taken by my wife on an old iPhone - so very basic.

I think split the sound out and use Reaper and some EQ and compression to boost the sound a little.

Then I use iMovie on my Mac to put the new audio track to the video. Often the video is really dark so I just pick one of the default filters to get more light.

Very basic but works OK.

And yes, it's a great location. They also have jazz nights once a month with some pretty big name Sydney players. It's 15 minute walk or a couple of mins in car/bus to get there. Cheap beer as well!

We're going to be playing some golf clubs in September - same organiser has asked us to play. So some interesting day time venues which I like.

cheers

I wish we had organizers here.  :bonk:

So @Jurgen when you play live how long is it for? Are you the only group or is there a lineup?
Friends in England, Scotland and Ireland,  like @realkevm  for instance, seem to always be a part of a larger lineup of acts. Seems they each do a single 30-40 minute set before the next group comes up.
Here in CT, USA we are usually the only act for  2 -4 hours comprised of 2 or 3 sets.

Coooooool! @Jurgen so great to see you guys performing live! I'm always a fan of your signature guitar sound and man, I know how insecure you once were to sing.. and look/listen how confident it looks/sounds now! Thanks for sharing mate, enjoyed listening and watching!
Cheers, Love and Peace,
Mar T.

Hi @Bill from November Sound re length of sets...

This varies from 15mins to an hour. We usually play 25 to 40 mins.

We're usually part of a lineup of 6 bands for the shorter sets and 2 or 3 when we get to play longer. Right now these arent paying gigs but the band i was in, we were getting paid.

@Mar T. Yes who would have thought I'd be singing! Feeling a lot more comfortable with it all and you were  right, i just needed to keep trying and working on it.

Did you see my version of fading shadow that i posted on the live thread? I cant si g it as well as you did but i really enjoy playing it live.

Cheers
