Title: Live duo performance of NS original tune
Post by: Bill from November Sound on March 25, 2020, 00:20:06
Hi Everyone,

Here is a live performance of my original song called Longing, Hate and Love ( This Cold Winter ) …. and we got this performance in at the small stage of the inn  :) …. last week before everything was shut down.  :-\
We did this right after the open mic we host was completed for the evening. Just Melissa and I … sorry no Will on this.  ;)

Lyrics:

Verse:
Snowflakes fly sideways past my window.
Said, “I want to be alone.” But, I miss you.
Flames dance before me but I can never shake this coldness.
Things can never change, it seems, no matter what I do.

Chorus:
Can I be warm in the coldness of the winter?
A perfect storm of longing, hate and love
Can I go back to when I thought it didn’t matter?
Ask for kindness from the gray skies up above.

Verse:
Solitude and darkness before tomorrow
The night wind howls ooh, ooh, ooh
I dream your likeness and I reach out to try to touch you.
Though I hate to linger here my thoughts are still on you.

Chorus:
Can I be warm in the coldness of the winter?
A perfect storm of longing, hate and love
Can I go back to when I thought it didn’t matter?
Ask for kindness from the gray skies up above.

Bridge:
If I could go back, what would I do?
Never can go back - even if I wanted to

Interlude:

Chorus:
Can I be warm in the coldness of the winter?
A perfect storm of longing, hate and love
Can I go back to when I thought it didn’t matter?
Ask for kindness from the gray skies up above.

Beautiful performance and lyrics! A great metaphor for the moment!

It's great when you can touch on a subject without directly pointing at it. It's the beauty of music I suppose.

Somewhere, in the kitchen, someone/somebody has looked at a post I did one or two days ago.
I must have hit the wrong button and my post will be a giant question mark.

Well anyway, I tried to compliment the two of you for hosting an open mic.
And that the advantage is of course that you get the chance to augment the list if it’s not fully booked.

A wonderful song too! @Bill from November Sound

In Amsterdam I go to De Koe where Tuesdays are the open mic nights.
I hope that record and post frequently.
Kind regards, Gus

Thanks so much for your kind comments! It really means a lot.  :)

You know @Monty Cash Music  … this wasn't meant to be profound or prophetic in any way.
This was written a few years back after 8 hours of snow removal. The darkness the day after the New England weather event that people like @Leonard Scaper and I know about …. the 'NorEaster.
Snow 1 meter deep, 8 hours of work just to get to the end of the driveway! And then … the fatigue, the quiet stillness, the somber beauty, the strange loneliness …. and an oppressive sadness … be it real or not.
But that's why we stay in New England. We take our vitamin D and carry on taking in the extremes of the seasons.  ;)

I watched and listened to your video when it was first posted @Bill from November Sound  I'm glad you posted it on the forum to share with others.

I find your lyrics absolutely stunning

Having lived in NJ before moving to Chicago (and now MD) I know a little about 'Nor Easters and shoveling snow.

Thanks for that backstory @Bill from November Sound . That feeling really comes across.

Thanks @Dutchbeat and @Leonard Scaper .... we really appreciate that! Really.

Thanks @Vince ! You know when I wrote this I always kind of had your voice in mind. It was eatly when I joined the kitchen and we hadn't conversed much at that point. Maybe we could do some sort of a collab with this someday? :)

Thanks @LePlongeur ! We were having a similar conversation on another thread where I was saying the difficulty in getting gigs ..... especially when one is off the beaten path .... be it a female vocalist, original music, a genre that isn't as accepted, whatever. So I have taken the values of the kitchen to my own little  part of the world and as NS becomes more popular I'm doing what I can to change it.
Ergo the original and acoustic open mic events where musicians get a chance to perform for a supportive audience.  We encourage original music, interesting arrangements all styles and all ages.
All that to say thank you for noticing and thank you for the compliments toward our music!

I'd be willing to give it my best.

I was thinking like a trade off. Maybe like you'd sing a verse, she'd sing the chorus, etc..  you know the way the cool kids do it … @Vince  … right?  ;)
