do you ever feel almost embarrased... about
on: September 18, 2019, 23:08:05
the ridiculous amount of tracks and options and fx''s you have to your disposal

nowadays, recordingwise

i do... ;D ;D ;D ;D
but i enjoy it anyway

two or three decades ago, we were all working with....the number of tracks we had
none..or 4  :o..or 8!  :o :o...and later on even... :o :o :o 16  :o :o :o
and we worked with the sounds and effects we had

i like this time of unlimited DAW tracks and options better, yet i miss the romance of really considering the number of tracks available

what do you feel about this?
it is without any limits nowadays for a bedroom or kitchen songwriter on the technical side nowadays, don't you think
:P :P which means....i can really only blame my songwriting skills now  :-[ for sounding so bad  :shinyteeth: :shinyteeth:

Actually, I keep things pretty simple in my Protools rig. I still tend to use it like a tape recorder. I have no MIDI, I use minimal tracks and I only own the plugins that came stock with PT 11. I don't even use all of them.

In this age of limitless track count and plugin effects I think I'm more embarrassed about my ludistic tendencies.  ;)

The truth is, though, that the incredible power of a DAW shines for me in the ability to edit. I spent the better part of an hour in the studio this morning manually nudging a bass track and some congas to sound just right together against the acoustic guitar.....lots of millisecond level nudges of individual notes by ear.

I feel it is a great time for making music, in a DAW, looping, playing live or otherwise.
Technology has opened avenues to unheard of things only a decade ago and if you go back to the 50's / 60's it's a yawning gulf.

However there are probably less venues available now for live music and streaming and people expecting music to be free has meant that it's very hard to make a reasonable living out of music alone.

But no, not embarrassed but grateful on a personal level.
