now that we have our songwriter anonymous therapy group up and running.... ;D ;D ;D ;D

i wanted to address other potential side effects of songwriting.....somatic complaints

Do ever have or had any somatic ailments or complaints due to songwriting or playing music????

I am asking because i think my hearing is getting less, could be my age, but also may well have to do with: playing music and mixing with headphones for some decades now  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Luckily i don't have the dreaded Tinnitus....that sounds really bad....see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tinnitus

anyone has that????
and of course, i had the occasional blisters on my fingers when i did another attempt to get going on the guitar again...

but even Ringo Star had those once in a while ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D:

Hi @it must be me, Dutchbeat?

unfortunately I have tinnitus but only in last year and only in one ear. That ear is almost deaf now which makes mixing using headphones impossible.

I'm lucky that although I have constant noise in my ear, it's less than it was and I've learned to cope with it. Some people have it much worse.

No idea what caused it and hopefully it won't spread to the other ear or my short lived music hobby will come to an abrupt end!

cheers

jurgen

Well I know I'm addicted because it was about 85 degrees here in the UK yesterday and the room I record in was like a sauna but I still tried to record some vocals and guitar even though the sweat was dripping down me!

Genre agnostic singer / songwriter / guitarist.

One minute I'm screaming a heavy metal falsetto and the next I'm being as subtle as a purring pussy cat.

@JUXTA ha yes, that is a clear and well-established symptom of songwriting addiction  8) 8) 8) 8)

we have some other kitcheneers and kitchenettes out here with kitchenstudios that get extremely hot in the summer (usually on the attic / the top floor)
like me.... ;D ;D ;D ;D, when i follow the weather forcast in the summer, it is usually for knowing how hot it will be in my recording space.... :P :P :P ::) ::) ::)
and we have some members whose recording studio get very cold in the winter (songwriters recording in basements or outside sheds...)
i used to have my music gear in a basement in my previous house....
i was recording and mixing with a big winter coat if it was below zero degrees Celcius outside.....
is that sad or worrying ??? ??? ??? ??? no.. not really, but songwriter addiction....it started since i was 11 years old, i think at the age of fourteen the condition was full blown, but in the end one can really come to live with it and have an almost, well at least slightly  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D, normal life  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

to be really honest... i am surprized that the vast majority of people doesn't have songwriting addiction

@JUXTA

btw, some say it is not an addiction
but caused by a disease called SSD (which is short for singer songwriter disorder)

here is an educational video about SSD, it is about a patient with a severe case of SSD out here in the Netherlands, but @MartiMedia found and shared an English translation of this important video earlier
If you recognise these symptoms, your may have SSD...... in that case  ;D ;D ;D ;D, it is good to check, and have this checked, out :o :o :o :o:

That video made me laugh so much!

I think I need to make one called "The Falsetto Addicts Club". And add my Judas Priest scream to nursery rhymes :-P
