Hello,

I was busy with some exercises and chose a song for it, which fascinates me since it is one of the oldest songs at all, which was handed down with melody and lyrics.

Now I want to torture you with an interpretation. Out of consideration I only sang three of the 7 original verses. Since it is not original of mine I post  my interpretation in the  kitchen caf.
Language is old german.
Mostly I had fun with play the midi instruments especially  I discovered the Pipa! The only thing that annoyed me was that I wasn't able to transpose the song a half or a whole tone upwards. But ok so it's then also in the origin key as Mr. von der Vogelweide wrote it 800 years back, even though I know and read often now that many people find it ugly when a woman sings it like that. It's no need to klick on the link, its just a fun song.

Close English translation:

Palestine song

For the very first I am alive to myself,
since my sinful eye beholds
the noble land, and also that earth
to which so much honour is given.
That has come to pass for which I have ever prayed:
I have come to the place
where God walked in human form.

Such fair lands, rich and noble,
as I have seen elsewhere,
you are the honour of them all,
what miracles have come to pass here!
That a maid bore a child,
lord over all the angelic host,
was this not a perfect miracle?

Here he, being pure, let himself be baptized,
so that man might be pure.
There he let himself be sold,
so that we thralls might be free;
otherwise we would be lost.
Hail to you, spear, cross, and thorn!
Woe to you, heathens, this is an outrage to you!

I understand your fun,
So it's one of the oldest songs.. does it also fascinates you because it's about Palestine?

Very nice to listen to, and learn about one of the oldest songs
Thanks  ::heart::

I have a friend who does this. Changing the key in which a song is written.
Im afraid there are traces audible when changes like these are made. Not traces of the old key, bit a sort of slur is audible. Soft, but its there.

Having said that, if you want to give it a go/try, I will ask for a recipe of how to do it.
With pleasure.
Kind regards, Gus

Unfortunately it isn't that easy. I already tried that. Just hit the 'change key button in DAW.  That might work for the more simple things as the sound and the bass pattern that does just simply structure. But with the guitar and the pipa, which  plays its own melody it sounds just crap.   I realized i would need to play the midi guitar and pipa again  and new in the key that the song would have been transpose too. I searched the internet to find a progression  in another key.  But wasn''t really succesfull. It seemes there are some other keys those i tried doesn't sound really good to me or original. Something  always seemes different. Mostly those transposes have less chords used than the original where some significant details seemes lost and harm original character. No idea really why,, but I approached it very unproffessional, I know.

Maybe it is as @LePlongeur  just pointed to that it have something to do with binding of the notes....
I don't know, but of course i would like to explore it  a bit more, and if somone will have fun to do without deeper sense, as your friend maybe Gus, then i would like it to do this song again.
Maybe someone would have fun to play around with me and want do any additions would be most pleasure to me, just for fun reasons of course. So feel invited! ;D - Gus maybe you would like to play for it???

So far I used this paper for it:

Have a nice weekend! :)
