Local Songwriters' Association
on: January 20, 2018, 14:38:27
Hello everyone,

Is anybody here a member of a local songwriter association?

I don't mean a big ASCAP or something like that but rather a town, state, county, province kind of thing.

If you are a member is it helpful, fun, worthwhile?

If you're not, are there any near you? Why wouldn't you join?

Bill
Bill
Songwriter, Keyboards, Arranger, Producer & Engineer for November Sound

November Sound is based on the Mother, Father & Son musical trio of Melissa, Bill & Will. I'm the father so anything I post will have my wife singing and/or my son playing percussion.

Hi Bill, I have never heard of such a thing in my part of the world. The nearest thing we have to it in Liverpool UK are various 'open mic' acoustic nights at one or two venues in the city from time to time. Here you can do a couple of songs, but then mix with some fellow songwriters, although quite a few of them are usually just cover artists. I've gathered in a few troops for my recordings over the years by this kind of networking, but my fave regular night closed down last year due to dwindling attendances.

It's a shame the regular Kitcheners don't all live in the same City, as I am sure we could put on some pretty fine evenings and networking fun!
If you like novels with a musical theme, why not try 'Sixth Beatle - When Music Changed The World', easily found on Amazon and Google. It is amazing, although as the author I may be biased!

Intriguing question @Bill from November Sound.

And in accordance with @MichaelA ‘s findings, as far as I know there are 2 open mic places in Amsterdam. Or better, in the western part of the Netherlands.

Café De Koe in Amsterdam and SWAN (songwriters Amsterdam Noord). It’s not expressly forbidden to do covers, but it is sort of discouraged. If this is no English after all, to the contrary of promoting. You get it.

Rather small scale.

These café’s generate tight or loose friendships and people who for shorter or longer time work together. Sometime up to three different groups, aiming at as many different sorts of music.

As far as I know there is no formal setting available for songwriters.

It seems fair to say that we’re an unruly lot.
Kind regards, Gus

The group I mentioned earlier have their first session of the year, no covers, just original stuff.
I've put in an enquiry about the session if you can just go along and listen (at least for now)

I don't know of any in my country either!  It would be cool to form part of one of such RL groups.

I missed it yesterday @Bill from November Sound but I intend to get along at some point. It just didn't work out practically on the 30th.
