Monetization on SoundCloud

Hi cookers!

Quick poll: who in here already monetized his/her songs on SoundCloud or other platforms?
It looks fun, to *maybe* get some cents one day... but is there ant traps to be careful of?
Any advise in general?

No idea about SoundCloud.
YouTube ‘works’ as follows:
Your fee:
80.000 listens in one year = €80.00 for you.
Minus €80,00 retention and service fee for YT.
Is zero for you.

Four years ago, I talked to somebody who generated 17.000.000.000 listens in four years’ time.  She laughs about the retention fee.

In short:
You have to be extremely good AND extremely lucky (and extremely sexy) to earn money.

As I said, could be that SoundCloud is more artist friendly, but I wouldn’t count on that.
And please read the fine print very carefully!

Are the fees you mention in proportion of what you would earn, or fixed?
I'm not expecting to *earn* money, to be honest, but I really wouldn't like to *pay*...

It's unpredictable, to be honest.
I see some legendary names who never seem to break through the 80.000 listens barrier. And some people who manage to get huge ratings.

After 80.000 per year, it's in proportion to the amount of people listening.
And if someone click away after a short time, that one is not counted.
Everything works in favor of youtube.

Never tried with SoundCloud.

I make money on YouTube, though.

This is through proper distributions of my music, not anything ever from YouTube itself. You have to have 1000 subscribers for that and even then it isn't too good I hear.

I'm far (far far) away from the 1000 followers, really
and as I just post music (no video), Youtube may not be my best friend...

I'm about to use the "Repost" service, from Soundcloud, that should publish my tracks to official stores... I just hope I will not win "negative money"

Hey @Sebzzz , I was surprised SC did something for the creators. So I monetized some of my favorite songs. Never earned a dime though.. But then that's not my purpose of sharing my work. I share because we're in a music creation community. We can help each other getting better in creating music. And when we're connecting and becoming online friends we can also feel how our music 'moves' our 'real' friends.
The kitchen is a very special place with people who reallly listen. With people who are not here for the bucks (although I hope every creator will be able to earn some 'bucks' with their work). Nice to meet you Sebzzz! Welcome to the kitchen!

 I make a few pennies while I sleep from SoundCloud @Sebzzz

I signed up with RouteNote as a distributor using their free program. Free means you pay nothing and they take 15% of what you earn. You can also pay $10 per track and you keep 100%.

They distribute your tracks to 20 plus of the major platforms... SoundCloud is one of them.  The more tracks you upload... the more potential pennies!

Pandora was hitting really well for me until COVID shut down the bars and restaurants. Lately Spotify has been picking up and the new surprise is Iheart Radio.... one song of mine has been doing well on that platform for the last several months.

A little bit more trickles in from about 15 other platforms including YouTube, ITunes, Amazon etc.

I’ve been with RouteNote for about a year and half now and no complaints.
