New Song & My First Lyric Video!
on: April 30, 2021, 04:33:53
Hey everyone!

For those of you who don't know me, I had a 5-year hiatus from music. I was working overseas and moved back home to finish an Education degree. Now that I've graduated, I'm doing my best to be a musician again. I released a single on February 19th, and now a second single on April 23rd.

Just wanted to shamelessly self-promote myself, but also share with you the first lyric video I ever created!
I created it completely on my smartphone using an app called "VideoLeap"

It took many, many hours, but I am overall pleased with the results. It also didn't cost much to create which is always a huge bonus!  Has anyone else had experience creating lyric videos? Is there an easier way to do it, perhaps? lol

Anyhow, I hope you enjoy my new song and video. Cheers :)

Hi @Curtwood Bearsman
Visuals are fantastic in this video.
It looks like you are right on and I can't imagine an easier way.
It is impressive the number of plays you're getting on a channel with less than 100 subs!  That's a good thing. Keep it up!
YouTube is a two way street .... you might consider getting more involved in the community ...? ...it'll give back to you ..... then again maybe you don't need to. Everyone finds their own way.

Hey @Bill from November Sound !

Thank you so much, I appreciate the feedback! I've been growing my music mailing list and I think it is a major reason behind the view count.. and spamming social media for the past 36 hours, maybe.. lol

I'd love to be more involved in the community! Anything I can do to support other musicians.

Cheers!

@Curtwood Bearsman  - welcome back! I don't have any tips for a lyric video, other than what I did: by hand putting text exactly under the place in the song. Takes some time indeed, but if you do it more often you'll get a hang of it. Your track sounds & looks wonderful, fine acoustic guitar with a funky vibe - something @Pleudoniem may like. Warrants a separate  post in the Song for Review board

@oorlab Funky, possibly, but it reminds me a lot of what Alice in Chains used to do. Imagine this with a distorted guitar - you might possibly want to try it out with a VST to see (hear) what I mean. Even the intonation reminds me of Layne Staley. It's a nice piece of work, and you might want to add a bass and a drum if you can (or ask someone to do it). I hear possibilities.
Pleudoniem: composer; bass guitarist; guitarist; singer; drummer; tap-guitarist - o, and yes... erm- a bit of keys. Open for collabs.

@oorlab - thank you! Okay, yes, it seemed very tedious and time-consuming individually placing and timing each word within the video... lol but I suppose with patience it all worked out! I'll have to do another lyric video someday now that I have a little more experience.

I really appreciate the kind words and feedback! I could certainly post it again in the Song for Review board, I wasn't sure if that was only meant for pre-released songs.

Originally, the song was meant to be called "2020" based on what a terrible year it was... and how everything changed so rapidly... the intro "woosh" noise was also meant to symbolize the abrupt change/chaos. But I figured "Holding On" has a more universal appeal in terms of a song title... ten years from now, I doubt we'll want to remember 2020! lol

Thanks again.

@Curtwood Bearsman  - actually we discussed in a moderator meeting to have an extra board fo showcasing finished songs. The current Songs for review is both for work in progress (sometimes you see (WIP) in the subject line, but do feel free to post there too.

Yes, who knows how in the future people will look back to the pandemic and 2020. When it really started last year, I guessed it was of the order of 9/11. Now I think its impact will be even bigger and longer and deeper,.... but how lies still in the future.

@Pleudoniem  - any particular Alice in Chain song comes to mind? I am not familiar with their music... my bad :doublebonk:

@Pleudoniem - thank you for the feedback! I've been predominately using an acoustic-electric Seagull guitar to record all of my music. It would be interesting to see how an electric guitar would transform the song.

I've had a few people compare my music to 90s style Nirvana / Incubus , so I appreciate the Alice in Chains mention. I'm still sort of trying to find my niche or target audience in terms of musical style. I was a child during the 90's but my older siblings passed me all their 90's grunge CD's which I loved. Definitely a strong influence for me.

@oorlab The first that sprang to mind was Them Bones. True, that has a very odd rhythm, but it's the way the guitar pulses and the vocal that does it.

@Curtwood Bearsman If you send me the raw acoustic guitar, I can run it through a very sophisticated app for you here that will make it sound electric.

@Pleudoniem - that's one hell of a tune! (Them Bones). With the timing of that guitar riff and structure, I can see how it has some semblance of my introductory riffs to "Holding On". Thank you for bringing Alice in Chains to my attention! Maybe I will chase after their fans a little bit... lol

My buddy does all my recordings so unfortunately, I do not have the guitar tracks on my computer. Next time I see him I could ask him to transfer the files to me though! I'd be very interested to see what it could sound like. I'll get back to you on that one.

@oorlab thank you for the clarification! If it's all good with you, maybe I will post the 2 music videos I created this year in one new thread. And yes... how "2020" will be written up in the history books decades from now will be interesting, to say the least... so I wasn't sure I wanted to give my song that direct title. "Holding On" I feel like can pertain to more universal life experiences.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! Appreciated.
