New Years Bring New Idears - 2021
on: December 30, 2020, 17:02:34
 ;D

Hey you want some accountability?
What are you going to do with your music making this 2021?
Put it in writing here.
I'll bump this thread again in June to check in and again in December to see how it went.

Bill
Songwriter, Keyboards, Arranger, Producer & Engineer for November Sound

November Sound is based on the Mother, Father & Son musical trio of Melissa, Bill & Will. I'm the father so anything I post will have my wife singing and/or my son playing percussion.

In 2021 I'm going to attempt these music things:

1. Promote our ( 7 song album) EP "Friday"
.... by promote I don't mean post up there in songs for review and say "hey guys make sure to like, subscribe and follow" .  ;) No, I'm actually going to put some money into press release, advertising & distribution. I haven't  done that in the past. This time I will.

2. Make a more "acoustic" sounding album
... piano and voice, ukulele and voice, etc.

3. Learn how to make real EDM
.... take some classes, practice and try get better understanding of using synths and how it is made. Especially stuff for video games.

4. Sell all my crap world percussion instruments
.... I have too much drums, rattles, shakers... you name it .... get it out of here.  :bonk:

5. Get better at piano
..... specifically jazz piano

Great thread @Bill from November Sound ... Happy New Year.

I'm going to try and get some music projects finished this year and other stuff too ;-)

1) I have two more tracks for 'The Pilgrims Way' ,  "High on the Heugh" and  "Causeway Dreams" to complete my first instrumental album.

2) Now I have two orchestral pieces Autumn and Winter under my belt it would be remiss of me not to do Spring and Summer to create a seasonal album that might be called "The Wheel Turns".

3) I have some orchestration and other courses to complete and reflect on

4) I want to get a better grip of sight-reading

5) Now I have a half-decent MIDI keyboard I want to get to grips with playing a keyboard.

6) I want to rationalise and update my online musical presence (such as it is) Websites / SoundCloud / Facebook / Spotify etc.

7) I need to spend more timer playing my guitars and bouzouki.

That's plenty to keep me busy

HI @Bill from November Sound ,

1) Connecting with other people with my music passion and get inspired by it and hopefully help/inspire others.

2) I just started a course from Bob Baker about Passion Project.

3) This month finishing the full length album with Louis Mhlanga.

4) And experimenting with a new soundscape setup to create a kind of remixes of field recordings in realtime...
Ultra compact setup with iphone as live streaming camera, ipad for live sounddesign and additional instruments and H1n to capture sound on location.

5) Create the habit to create music/visuals/code early in the morning. starting at 5.00 am weekdays.

Hope you can see the results here.

I think its a good idea to create a thread about how we try to connect to potential fans. What kind of promotional things everybody tried?
What we have learned from it.

Just set all my solo  music free at https://budhabuilding.bandcamp.com

My idea is,  maybe creating songs and stay with this forum as it was in the last year, but to be honest I'm not sure about.
Indeed maybe this will be interesting to  me read it back in several month and see how it really went.

Good thread @Bill from November Sound  :) ::thumb::

Happy New Year! Good thread @Bill from November Sound

My songwriting goal for 2021 is to write, arrange, record 1 song that I’m really pleased with .  That’s it.

This is a new approach for me, inspired by a post from @M57 a few years ago where he said that due to time constraints and other life distractions, channelling his creative efforts into writing and producing  one great song a year was a realistic and satisfying  goal (can’t find the post, but something along those lines!)

Wow @DanJames that's cool.  :)

... at the same time the Dan James fans out here will be sad to not hear very much from you for an entire year.   :(

@Bill from November Sound  is right @DanJames     a shame only to hear one song a year from you, even if it is perfect  ::e-guitar3::

as for me this year I'd like to write a few new songs, make a few new friends and when things open up again start going to open mic nights.

@DanJames I feel you are doing your song writing talent a disservice to only produce one song in a year.
My thought would be make as many as the muse allows and rework or polish up the good ones to a higher standard.
Otherwise you might actually produce nothing and that would be really sad.

For me, I want to be productive this year.  Not just write and record as a secondary time killer, but do something with it so...

1.  Write, write, write

2.  Digitally release Freefall as a single

3.  Finish and digitally release a full-length LP by springtime

4.  Do it all again for LP #2

Hi Dan! I got an email that someone mentioned me here. It has been a while - and I remembered my password!

I don't remember exactly what I wrote either, but my goal remains pretty close.  Two a year is probably more common for me, but there are more factors than just time constraints.  Everyone is different. In my case it's also based on the fact that the muse simply doesn't visit with me all that often,  and I'm an inspiration (not a perspiration) kind of guy. Now I know from experience that given a deadline, I almost always manage to write/arrange some pretty decent stuff, and I'm always glad that I put in the time and effort,  so I don't know that it's necessarily good advice to recommend the slow road. I just don't like to "work."  It's one of the advantages of being an amateur.

It just so happens that I'm working on one right now - so I'll post it here in the kitchen shortly.

I'll be digging into my catalog to resurrect some golden oldies and actually learn to play them again. I am continually surprised by what I find on my back pages.

I'll still be writing as songs come along.

Oldies but mouldies? @Leonard Scaper  But as long as you keep writing (I hope) there’s no harm in going back now and then, I guess.

@Bill from November Sound
Ideas for the Kitchen or for myself?

Please let me no!
