So, the lovely hubster had bought me an iPad for my birthday. Can anyone recommend any apps to help with my recording/mixing? Is it better to use an iPad or stick with my laptop? Any pros cons?

Thanks guys!!!

Hey @acoustic-alice , wow that's a nice gift!! I think @LostBoy can help you with tips/tricks how to use an iPad to record and mix, it is certainly possible, he made amazing recordings/mixes on the iPad.
Personally I believe the available software on desktops/laptops (whether Apple or Windows) is better than what you can use on an iPad, but hey, maybe it's no problem for you to do some concessions in favour of being more portable. I hope LostBoy has some tips/tricks for you!
Cheers, MM

@acoustic-alice, congratulations!!!!
....you didn't tell your husband that you smuggled just a tiny bit with the date of your birthday  8) 8) 8) 8)

like ten days.... ;D ;D ;D

but seriously, I can not answer your question because I don't have an Ipad,
but I would think it would be capable to run any Daw and is very convenient for recording wherever and whenever you want?

I think @man of simple pleasures also records everything with Ipad
me, myself, and Pie

Hahaha yeah @Dutchbeat he definitely knows!! That's made me laugh!

What's Daw?

 ;D ;D ;D ;D, that made me smile, that is nice......are you trying to fool me  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I meant DAW as in Digital Audio Workstation, I mean multitrack recording software like Cubase, Reaper

if you place one of these DAWs on your ipad (but then one of these Daws for Ipad), you will have almost infinite recording options, trackwise, effectswise, mixingwise....

I know you love to record in one take and are incredibly good at it, but......try it?? I guess, you have, but....if you haven't tried it, you really will like it

@acoustic-alice
I realised that you used multitrack recordings in the past

and only then I thought...perhaps DAW is an old guys term... :P :P :P :P

not that I am that old.... ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D

......for finally being able to do hard disc recording, multiple tracks, without latency whatsoever  :o :o :o :o,  on computers (at home) and being able to control all the tracks via a screen

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

to explain, I am old enough to have spent hours and hours of bouncing cassette tapes back and fourth and trying to play along with it

to create an extra track......oh my....that seems so perfectly stupid and pointless now....and it was  ;D ;D ;D ;D

the extra hiss per track was just.....horrible

but  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D I was very young back then  ;D ;D ;D

Hi @acoustic-alice. I tend to use my i-Pad infrequently as Mac/PC software is so much better. I have recorded a full track with Garage Band on i-Pad, but the drums are a pain to set up. It is good  for sketching out ideas though and for messing around with the virtual instruments to get a quick and dirty backing track. I-Pad can also be used as a spare screen / controller for Logic Pro on the Mac.

Here's the track I recorded on i-Pad/GB using only the built in mic: https://www.reverbnation.com/stevegrayandtheultrarayviolets/song/18096194-the-hurricane I do like the string sounds.
