For anybody who is interested in video production to go with their music then you might want to check out this program.

https://www.shotcut.org/

I've started using it on a recent project of mine and I'm finding it intuitive and  powerful.

It's a great way to dip your toe in the water and try creating a music video or similar.

The built in audio editing features are welcome and perhaps unusual for this sort of software. It even has built in metering.

Plenty of tutorials are available too both official and unofficial.

I recommend this one based around the latest version of the software.

Hi. Honestly, I got this software some time ago, but I ended up not using it because I couldn't make a video clip with it, can't remember the exact reason, so thanks for this tutorial. Also, many software are not compatible with older computer versions of operation system which is kind of a bummer. So it's good to see this kind of a tutorial. Thanks.

Re: giving free advertising to a random video editor?

I, personally, would like to see an end to these kind of threads.
I feel as though we are giving free advertising, webspace and backlinks to an application that may or may not be any good.  :-\
Probably just me .....   :bonk:
I feel that it would be more appropriate to make a thread like "what video editor do you use?" or something like that.    ???
I'm Bill and I'm just a normal guy.

I feel you are missing the point with Open Source Software @Bill from November Sound and yes this is the video editor I now use instead of my outdated Cyberlink software that seems clunky in comparison.

It's not commercial program so anybody can try it on different computer platforms too. I've tried a number of Video Editing Options over the years and this one seems better than most I have tried and costs nothing. Granted it's linking a bloke describing it and you might feel this is not justified as it links to him but we post links to Beato and similar who  are making proper money from YouTube.

if we can't link a free  application I have used and produced some passible content (see below) then what is the point of posting anything at all on a forum designed to help people in their craft ?

My first use of it was for a small video for a friends ruby wedding that I won't post here. She is in our choir and another lady in the choir sent us some video footage of her singing a modified song for comedic effect.  It was an upright phone shot. I recorded my wife and I singing other parts including harmony parts then recording us miming to our track on a phone too. I then brought together the two phone windows side by side and
the master audio track all in Shotcut.

By comparison my Wheel Turns Videos are fairly simple.  I'm hoping to start looking at chromakey soon and other features.

I'm wondering if we need to introduce a Video sub-forum in Songwriting Ingredients for video related stuff like this.

For all Mac users doubtless the first choice is iMovie :)
Awesome free tool that is a lot of fun, with great possibilities and very intuitive to use.
