Sound design is everything

At least so says this guy:

I've just finished watching the video. Enjoyed the section about Dr Who as I realised this was where my love of electronic music absolutely started. I was eight years old and sat in front of the television, watching the very first episode of Dr Who ... Which ultimately I suppose led to mje being who I am where I am making this post :)

Hi LenB, thanks for sharing, had a lot of fun watching esp the Dr Who part you were reffering to. Wow, what a job with all that tape and the lack of vsti's!
Great to hear the influences that sparked your musical passion!

Hi Marti,

I think the argument is interesting as well. He suggests (and all the videos made from this NI event suggest it too) that what makes a great pop song is is not so much the melody, harmony and lyrics, but the sonic hooks, the strongly idiosyncratic and easily identifiable sonic qualities that are unique to the track. That argument has some merit, maybe even a lot, possibly more for EDM. He starts with an example where the original song went nowhere until it was remixed with a unique sonic hook. I wondered what people think?

very nice video to watch, and i think sound hooks are very important and some hits have been just that. Clearly the choice of sounds in electronic music makes or breaks the track

i loved hearing that dr. Who theme again.....i Always thought that high melody would have been made played on one of the first analogue monphonic synthesizers (like a MOOG), but it was really ridiculously complex and time consuming how they made that.....what a great job
