Very funny cartoon ... Point well taken ... now I'm more intimidated and mystified by compression than ever!

I've learned that it's difficult to understand because it's difficult to hear the effect. Sometimes it's actually easier to hear the effect in the mix than with the track on solo... which is counter intuitive until you take the time to analyze what's going on.

Important stuff, well worth learning...but don't over do it!

I've learned that it's difficult to understand because it's difficult to hear the effect.

One thing that has helped me get comfortable with compression is to CRANK DOWN on the threshold to really hear what the compressor is doing.  Make it sound NASTY! That helps me to hear what the attack and release are doing. Then, of course, get back to reality with it.

Attack and release settings are where the real artistic stuff happens I think.
