Fab song now sounding even fabbier, well done @Mar T.::thumb::

A few comments (that are probably just down to taste but nevertheless)
The hihat sound a little "brittle"/thin to me, probably just the way that particular hihat sound but perhaps it could be tamed a bit by some eq?

Would have liked a little more "room" and "ping" on the snare

And to me the ride is a bit "washy", that is probably the way it sounds irl but I would consider getting more focus on the hit and less on the tail. Compression on it or the OH? If so maybe back of the release time to get less of the tail? Or some envelope shaper to shorten the decay? Sounds better during the flute solo (probably due to being played softer)

Anyway, just very minor (and highly personal) stuff. As I said, sounds fab, both performance and production!

Edit: almost forgot, it needs more compression!  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Bit late to the party here..Wow this forum so active...conversation moves so quickly when your away for just a day or so.

 ::heart:: nuff said.

@Zedd  Agree what everyone on here has said about this song. It has such a great mood. I love the guitar riff at the start (like a weird combination of the Smiths/Johnny Marr and for some reason Invisible Sun by the Police) and then you go and put that flute (or my bad is it a whistle?) on top. Makes the hairs stand up!

Hi @Mar T. and @Zedd,

I already liked the original version but the Mix by Mar T. is really very good and brings the song so another level. The only point I'd have is that the drums (which sound great) to me are a bit too prominent and I sometimes can not hear much of the instruments... But it is all up to taste of course ;-)

Best,

Fabian

Thanks @junemay , maybe lowering the drums a bit in gain will also solve @Jambrains 's issues.. I'll check into it.. What do you think @Zedd ?

Hey @Jambrains thanks man!! Really valid points.. It was hard to treat the drums, since I only had a track with all drums. When you eq that track it too much it soon starts to sound unnatural.
I could try to split them into 3 frequency area's (low, mid, high) and treat them seperately, but that could cause phase issues.. So I decided to keep the drumtrack almost as-is (only applied some minor eq).. I can try to send the snare mids to the reverb though ;-)
Hahaha you and compression... Actually there's a lot of compressing (also colouring @Zedd 's voice with a ssl compressor) going on ;-) I hope I made the production clearer and managed to keep the dynamics ;-)
Cheers my friend! :mart:

Thanks @jurgen @Jambrains @Olbigead (yes, it's a low whistle) @junemay - lovely comments... I'll leave the production suggestions for @Mar T. to handle..

Martijn, whatever you think on the gain on the drums - it sounds fab to me as is, but my ears don't hear half the things you guys do, so if you think it's worth it then yes I'd say go for it.. As I said, sounds very fantastic to me already!!!

Thanks again guys...

Hi @Jambrains and @junemay thanks for the pointers!
I decreased the drums 1dB in the mix (and boosted the master with 0.7 dB), added a verb to the snare (because I only have 1 track with all drums that was basically sending the frequency area where the snare is most prominent to the reverb module).
I edited the EQ settings in the hats/cymbals area as well, there should be more 'shizzle' now and still sound natural. If this is still not natural enough I'm going to need seperate tracks for each drum instruments @Zedd ;-)
But I think this is quite the optimum when using the the 'single-containing-all-drums' drumtrack: https://soundcloud.com/martimedia/ifyoudontknowihearyou6/s-qw3N2
Let me know if it got better or worse!

Cheers!

Wow! This turned out awesome!!! ::headphone::
The emotion in your voice is haunting as always. And @Mar T. did his wizardry with the mix. These drums sound fantastic! And so does everything else. I'll probably listen to this a lot in the near future...
Karma to both of you!

Hey @Mark Luto did you listen to the version on @Zedd 's profile or version 6 just above your post? ;-)
Thanks man, Karen did the wizardry imo, I just tried to make it sound a bit more clear and natural  ;) ;)

@Mar T. I listened to the version on @Zedd 's profile. And just now to your version 6 as well. They're both great. But I really liked the dry and in-your-face drum sound. That feel's got lost a bit in version 6. Too much reverb. But i guess that's only recognisable in direct comparsion... ;)

@Mar T.   I've listened to both versions.  version6 sounds more like a single, the original is more live recording.  Both work in their own rights.

It's all subjective and depends on what your aiming for.   I do think that this track has such a great vocal, sitting on a tight bass and little guitar motif, that you could push out musically with the backbeat to make it more subtle but still effective.  Try soloing the drums clean and recording them back on 2 tracks.  One through a guitar's pick up close to the speaker and a second mic set up somewhere further back in the room.  Then mix those 2 tracks together with some reverb and keep them low in the mix. See how that sounds, hopefully like someone made the drummer play a ripped snare whilst hanging upside down in the next room :)

If the above is too much then replace the snare with floor tom through the verses, see how that feels.  It's all down to taste.

Still, sounds good as it is though.
