So I pretty much made the song full band and added a tasty little lick. I didn't approach Sean's superb vocal, but I tried. This was really fun, I really enjoy this song, and a shout out to him for letting me cover it and for giving me the chords cause my brain wasn't working right. Wanted to put it up for feedback before the end date for the challenge, cause feedback is always helpful, that and I couldn't wait to share it any longer. @revivalchoir

Anyway much love, and good luck to everyone in the Challenge.  ::thumb::

My god, almost forgot the link to the original. If somehow you haven't listened to it yet, you should:

We are the music makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
And sitting by desolate streams;
World-losers and world-forsakers,
On whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the world for ever, it seems.

I really like the changes and your easy going but captivating vocal melody. Also great tones in the guitars, the mix sounds really wide. Awesome vocal tone as well. Great job!

This is SO good!

Love how you went in such a different production direction while still staying perfectly true to the feeling of @revivalchoir 's beautiful song. Your voice has much of the same character as his .

Really good production and playing. That electric guitar does have a very cool tone. It really gives the song  something special.

Very tastefully done, like it a lot. Love the clear mix and the contrast between the acoustic/electric guitar tones. Your singing reminds me of Evan Dando but I don't imagine you'll care about that bit! Fabulous cover.

Hi @Bluedusksun , wow what a transformation, great relaxing flow in this track.....this is very, very nice to listen too

i like your vocals on this very much, such a comfortable and pleasurable delivery of the lyrics, awesome

i hve some doubts about how the drums sit in the mix, especially the snare

it sounds nice and crispy (the snare) but it perhaps doesn't 'sit'' completely relaxed in the mix....can't pinpoint it but the only thing i can come up with as a tip is to look at the placement and frequencies of the drums, the snare drum in particular, it draws a lot of attention the sound of the snaredrum to me while it could be more effective in keeping the pace going without drawing so much attention to the sound / frequencies of it? if that makes any sense  ::) ::) :P :P :P
and probably the snaresound is exactly the way you wanted it

awesome cover from a @revivalchoir song  ::thumb:: ::thumb:: ::thumb:: ::thumb:: Great entry for our Kitchen cover challenge - part 3

LOVE THIS!!!! Has such a happy feel to it, and I think you made a wonderful version of the song (thank you for drawing my attention to the original, which is beautiful @revivalchoir). Really enjoyed this, thank you!

@bryceprichard

Glad it sounds alright on your end, I'm trying to find the compromise on the different mediums. Computer speakers and head phones sound off, car sounds ok, monitors sound amazing though. It might actually be a little too wide in all honesty, I do get carried away sometimes. I got a six pack tonight and some time so I'm delving into the soundscape, wish me luck. Thanks for the nice words, pleasure to meet you.

@Leonard Scaper

I actually saw today that you covered his song a while back, meaning to listen  to that tonight. Funny thing, I actually found Sean on soundcloud before Dutchbeat invited me over here to the forum. I actually messaged him about the forum and he had a good chuckle about it. I tried to break through his modesty to explain he really has something special, but that own worst critic thing is sometimes too relevant I guess. I explained that I knew that feeling in the song, same thing with @lauder, so when the challenge came up I knew exactly what song I was going to cover.

He has a sorta soft melancholy to his voice, a crippling honesty and harsh pain. Its almost like purity if that makes sense, its just true. I don't think he knows how it pierces the heart yet, but I'm sure he has an idea at least. His music reminds me a lot of counting crows, which I am eternally jealous of. If I captured that in the least it's a hell of a compliment, so thank you. I just like playing the song cause it's lovely.

Honestly the lead is my favorite part, I recorded the rhythm guitar and drums first, and just stared jamming leads one night. Apparently I'm getting pretty good at finding leads, it's all in the fingerpicking patterns. Thanks for the lovely comments. Long nights

@DanJames

Just looked up Evan Dando, thats a hell of a compliment man. First you end up the first person to cover a song of mine, then that comparison. Thank you, truly.

@Dutchbeat

I think I went too wide with a lot of the aspects of the song. The overheads especially, which is the first time I actually used them for drums. I'm still pretty amateurish at everything, only have a good handle on vocals and acoustic guitar. It's funny you say that cause I heard it too, before the jangly guitars and muffled bass drew my attention away. I will try to eq the F out of that snare and bring it down a bit. Thank you so much for bringing it to my attention again :)  ::Dutch::

@Alex

Hey you, been a while since I saw you floating around. Missed listening to your music, hope all is well. The original is amazing right, I've probably listened to it at least 300 times. Its one of the songs that he keeps up on his soundcloud, cause he loves depriving his fans of his music. It does have a sorta happy feel to it doesn't it, which is so not my normal. Glad you liked the cover sweetie, much love

@adamartist

It's funny you say that, cause I took the song out for a car test last night (a habit I have gotten into after watching Once with Glenn Hansard). The whole time I was driving and slicing the song up in my mind of what it needed level wise I thought to myself that it's a pretty good driving song. Glad I'm not the only one to hear that. Pleasure to make your acquaintance.

Now that theFuck Yeah has been said, what can I say without sounding feeble?
Maybe fuck yeah with an extra karma thingy.
Why do you @Bluedusksun call it a demo?
This is perfect indie. I give it another spin.
Kind regards, Gus

Just listening and saying you like it is enough for me, I'm pretty easy. Goes with that whole slut singing mentality ;)

Oh and thats an easy question to answer, everything is a demo until I'm tired of working on it. Which usually means its about done. Thanks for the spin man, and good to hear from you, you're one of my favorite people to chat with on here. Long nights Gus.

So I did what I could with the cover, still might fiddle with it tonight before the deadline. Playing with levels is a hell of a drug. Also I did all this within a week, so it just goes to show what one can accomplish when properly motivated. Thanks for all the feedback everyone, and good luck to all the participants. Remember this just a bit of fun on our elongated musical journeys, we're all winners in the long run. Much love
~Rich

Hey Rich ( @Bluedusksun ), excellent choice to choose from the repertoire of @revivalchoir ! Love this song AND the cover! You managed to keep the original 'feel' of the track but this version sounds more produced. I like that added production elements as well as your guitar and singing skills in this track. What a beautiful result! Well done man!
Good luck in the challenge!
Cheers,

hey @Bluedusksun ,

Your cover stays pretty close to the original, but with some very nice extras. It's a gorgeous song and your version sounds fantastic! Good stuff!

Cheers,
