@siennalittle and I are still working on the collab, which is going to be quite different than this one. So, this is NOT the song for the challenge yet, in case you might think so. It is a Pleudoniem experiment with electronic patterns and odd atmospheres. The result reminded me of Massive Attack every now and then, but not quite- not quite like that at all. So, listen and decide for yourselves.

Prefer to Forget

I think what I found was
What was left of the ground
Of a place quite fatigued
By furtive innuendo

The gravel ground tales
Carefully bent and obscured
Had submerged from a face
Quite frenetically veiled

The rot had been there
Long before I began
Like a rusty old car, deftly
Covered in spray paint.

So chose to move on
To just love and let go, and
Id like you to know
Id prefer to forget.

Now Im quite like a toad
Slowly crossing a road
With an Orphean streak
Quite aware of the traffic

Shall I croak to lament
For I what may have deserted
Or pad on to that beach
Made from leaves of grass

The rot in the floor
Had been too much to endure
But beware of the cars
Id better be sure

Pleudoniem: composer; bass guitarist; guitarist; singer; drummer; tap-guitarist - o, and yes... erm- a bit of keys. Open for collabs.

Not familiar with Massive Attack... so no comment on that. Experimental OK... we all need that.

The production is clean and the guitar work helps to add variety and interest to an otherwise (IMAO) somewhat plodding piece. I kept wanting the lyrics to just rapidly stream rather than short line.... pause.... short line... pause ... etc.

It picks up a bit at about 1:10 and the guitar at about 1:50 really helps to gell the piece.

I really like this verse...

So chose to move on
To just love and let go, and
Id like you to know
Id prefer to forget.

And the way last line echos at the end.

I like your stuff a lot  @Pleudoniem ... this one, I believe,  could use a fresh approach to how the lyrics sit with the groove...

Keep em coming! 😎

@1roomstudio Ok. I am not sure I agree, but I think I understand what is troubling you. I've tinkered a bit with the timing. Is this any better?

Yes! Its got some bounce now... and the mix is clearer (or Im hearing more the 2nd time... its a deliciously complex mix of sounds)

I like where its going 😎

Hi @Pleudoniem  this is like nothing I've ever heard. That's a good thing, I'd say.
It has a sort of choppy, "starty and goey" kind of thing happening in the main melody and the rhythms and sounds you are using are somewhat fascinating.
Good show!

@Bill from November Sound Read the lyric, and you'll understand why :)
@1roomstudio Great! :) Possibly it gets better after hearing for a 2nd time, although @Bill from November Sound also notices the choppiness. That is there for a reason.

Wow!!!

You reached it!!!!!
The intro makes me think of the toad.... Your lyrics are so good,  and

"I think what I found was
What was left of the ground
Of a place quite fatigued
By furtive innuendo"

are so literary!!!

I like a lot the instrumental apparition over 3,15... The percussion suits so good there. Congratulations, I have been traveling to many sensations

@Mora Amaro La Loba Thanks for your kind comment :)

I may misinterpret you there, but I get the idea that you think that this song is our contribution to the challenge, but it is NOT. The intro at the start of the post may have given you that idea, so I've modified that to avoid further misunderstandings. @siennalittle and I are still working on the challenge, which will be very different from this one :)

I thought I'd better make sure... ;)

Wonderful reggae-funk groove @Pleudoniem .
I liked the line
"Had submerged from a face
Quite frenetically veiled"

in some parts, it fits like a glove, in some other parts the lyrics are a bit hidden in a certain synthsound, eg around 2.46.
Chord changes around 4.05 work well.

This is pretty cool. It has all of the classic @Pleudoniem hallmarks that I really like but with some fresh new approaches, including some nicely structured vocal delays in places that add excellent dynamic interest.
