"A Five Series and a Wife"
on: March 08, 2017, 12:03:54

this is my latest https://soundcloud.com/dakoda-sada/dakoda-sada-a-five-series-and-a-wife

it's less 80's than usual , also less voice mangling.
it's about the machinations of a "common or garden", criminal.
mostly Prophet 6 hardware ,some CS80 softsynth (organ) and some Kontakt MKS20 piano.
as ever, comments , observations and help gratefully received, I don't bruise easily.

Dakoda Sada.
I prefer poisoner to fish chef...

Very 21st century Zen. Nicely done.

I like your subtle use of vocal tuning (is that what I am hearing?) at the end of the first time you sing this :

Everybody knows all you need for a happy life
Is a five series, two glocks and a wife

You sing "pleasure" instead of "leisure"........either one works for me...leaning toward leisure.

It's just leisure hits and benefits
"The main thing is to have a gutsy approach....but use your head." Julia Child

"In a world of robotic conformity, the only originality left in music is the imperfections" Eric Craptone

lots of people normally say my stuff sounds very eighties so it nice to hear this one isn't!
I did make a conscious decision to try and be a bit more contemporary with this one, mainly by making a newer type drum rhythm.
I dialled the tuning of the vocals right back , it does have the slightest bit of Waves Tune on the way in, but I didn't use any Melodyne
magic afterwards , like I would have done previously.
I checked the lyrics before I posted them twice and still didn't spot that thanks!(fixed now)
It was the spell checker that did for me, it's supposed to be "pleasure hits" not "leisure hits" as it's about the culture in some parts
of the UK where there are young criminals with access to guns living on state social benefits and spending them
on drug taking (and other types of pleasure hits..)

thanks for the comments
Dakoda Sada.

Very calm and soothing, despite the subject matter :)

No need for bruises - I think it's spot on and agree that it's got a contemporary sound - your synths still give a bit of 80s but in my book, that's a good thing..

Classy @Dakoda !

@Dakoda ,

Wow, this sounds really cool. The lyrics are quite fun to listen to but the dynamics between the vocals to the track/beat really works for me.

Personally, I didn't really like the beat at 1:15 to 1:28 and 2:50 to the end - it sounded bland compared to the rest of the track.

All the best,

Ken

@Dakoda Your sound is your sound, don't pay an attention to musical pigeonholes (like the 80s) people try to put your music into. This has the great Dakoda sound...its unmistakable.

BTW I was thinking about the theme. There a potential for follow ups: "A Seven Series and a Mistress". Or maybe for posh types "A Bentley and a Chauffeur".  Mrs Olbigead: "Don't listen to him....He's off his meds again"

Loved the clarity in the keyboard work and production in this. A bit retro but with a very modern twist I'd say.
If you like novels with a musical theme, why not try 'Sixth Beatle - When Music Changed The World', easily found on Amazon and Google. It is amazing, although as the author I may be biased!

I love it. I wished the voice was a little more forward but maybe that's just me.  ::heart::
Fantastic retro 80's style. Reminiscent of depeche mode a little :)
