A spade a spade
on: December 13, 2019, 23:38:28
Hi KitchenForum,
Had the luck to work with a soundclouder I have known for a long time: Snow Man Dave.
He wrote the lyrics, I did the music - more or less, and he agreed to sing it, so I could do my favorite part of singing backing vocals.
Feedback welcome, on the maybe too sparse instrumentation, vocals, mix, mastering - whatever.

A spade's a spade
These are my thoughts so far
Donít sell my soul.
Into a rabbit hole,
donít want to fall.

Their plans are made, and canít be swayed
so lets just call,  a spade a spade

Their protests were flawed,
Mistakes were made.
But it was a general that threw
the first hand grenade.

Heís the true renegade
whatever you say Ė a spadeís a spade.

Theres no profit in peace and calm.
The silicon moguls need
someone to harm.

Barrels of death fall from black skies
and a mother kneels by a dying child.
Education feeds a desperate mind,
wisdom, canít make a  bad man kind.

Watch out for knoberchock on your door handles
and donít go sniffing scent bottles you find in the park.

@oorlab The piano at the end could be lowered a tiny bit, and Dave's vocal could be upped a bit, as it sometimes disappears into the background. It's a nice song, but I feel it could be polished a bit still. The pacing is one of the things I noticed. If they are all separate tracks, and knowing how you usually work, they are, that should not be too much of a problem.
Pleudoniem: composer; bass guitarist; guitarist; singer; drummer; tap-guitarist - o, and yes... erm- a bit of keys. Open for collabs.

@Pleudoniem  - thanks for your feedback. I changed the levels of the piano and vocals as you mentioned.

"knoberchock"- have to start with what sounds like a cool new word to me!
I think the vocal levels are ok @oorlab  and the bgv works especially well in that whimsical ending...which changes the mood of the song, in a good way I think.

"Theres no profit in peace and calm.
The silicon moguls need
someone to harm."

some well written dark thoughts in the lyrics  and the vocals match the feel.

Since the Universal Soldier and the Eve of Destruction nothing has changed. And we honestly thought we COULD change the world. It's hard now, being a father and grandfather, not to dishearten present generations. But your song is very much to the point in times of contagious door handles and bottles. Novi shock! I do like the lyrics and music of the song and think they really merit a more elaborate recording. It's all there!
If you dig it, do it. If you dig it a lot, do it twice (Jim Croce).

Hi @oorlab

I thought I had put a comment on your song but it turns out not ... Although I do know that I had heard it.
It's beautiful .... Curiously, I think the same as @Pleudoniem  the same.
It is a very beautiful and balanced song and very nice to hear as it is but, if you do those little touches, it would be great.

I have already learned that you are now a moderator in the forum ... Congratulations and that you and yours have a great 2020
