A Summer Night Smile... in Wintertime! :-)
on: January 06, 2019, 22:19:41
Hello kitcheners!
This is my last song,  “Summer night smile”. It's the first rock song I write ... it's dedicated to my husband  :)

Summer Night Smile

Walking by a village fair
around the end of june,
I was thinking about the past,
sad and out of tune.
Country music filled the air,
I didn't care,
I just wanted with all my might
to get away from that hot summer night.

He was standing next to me,
they called him the "cursed poet".
An actor on the stage he seemed,
playing for his Saturday crowd.
All of a sudden he turned and smiled,
A flash in the night!
I could feel the heat inside,
In that dazing hot summer night.

Red cherries hanging from a tree,
the promise of a new life for me.
I could abandon my old schemes,
the shadows of my wounded wings,
I want to play a brand new scene,
the king has found another queen,
She builds castles in the air
and she likes to live there!

Take me to the dance floor,
hold me all night long.
Let me know the magic
of a love that's sweet and strong!
Fill my life with tenderness,
just in one kiss
I can feel the fire deep inside,
I can feel it in this hot summer night.

Inside your eyes I see the stars,
the brightness that lights up the dark.
Inside my heart I feel the sparks,
the burning strings of my guitar.
I want to play a brand new song,
this time I surely can't go wrong.
Leave me here just for a while,
to dream of a summer night smile!

@gabrivux  - very strong drive in your song. Impressive combination of melody, riff and chords. Has a timeless feel. The part "the king has found another queen, She builds castles in the air" has an Abba feel. Cool solo too!!

A good song @gabrivux  with those twin guitars playing some great classic rock riffs. If this is a different genre than you usually write in I`d say you`ve done your homework ;there are echos of some very good bands ( Heart came to mind).
Well produced too ::thumb::

I can't fault anything about this one. Very well done. All the way from the lyrics to the music to the singing. Conrats to everyone involved in it!

What a great rock song. Sounds fantastic and moves nicely.

Good writing and great performances!

I will convey your compliments to my friends musicians!! :-)))

I certainly was inspired by many rock bands but I dont' know  the band called Heart... thank u Robert for making me discover them, I'll listen to their music! :-) I used to listen to Abba when I was a young girl...that could be the explanation, Oorlab  ;-) :-)

This work has a lot of weight inside and that leads him to belong to a very generational type of music
Very good work

Hi @gabrivux !
I like it very very much if a song has an urgency about it.
It's a very demanding force to make the audience pay attention. And here in the Kitchen, we are the audience.

You probably know about the (first) four sentences of the lyrics, and how important they are to get people to listen. I would add this kind of urgency to it.

I'd say, mission completed!
I'll go back for another spin!
Kind regards, Gus

I've really thought about this @gabrivux and wondered if I would write it or not.
And - as you see - the 'I do it' won.

I never write guitars louder or such kinds of things. I try to tell what the music does to me. Therefor the following:

Italian music is instantly recognisable and has been a major force in many people's careers. Look at Dusty Springfield for instance. One of the very best singers we've ever had, and she did many many Italian songs in English. Generating much acclaim, money and fans.

So I would ask you to please not lean too much towards English or American repertoire. Partly because of the competition, but also because you run the risk of alienating your 'home base'.

Please, at least keep one foot in the beautiful Italian harmonic traditions.
There, I've said it.
Ignore it please, if you don't like my being nosy.
Kind regards, Gus

Dear Gus,
thank u for having expressed your thoughts, It's a thing that I always appreciate! :-)

You're right, italian melody has a very strong tradition and influence all over the world, and I'm obviously proud of that... I chose to sing in english because  when I was a teenager  I discover the Beatles and later  the West Coast music, that became my favourite one. So english became my “natural” musical language, and a certain American repertoire my inspiration.

I write and sing for pleasure, so I don't worry about competion or my home base... I don't know if I even have one! ;-)

If you like italian music I suggest you to listen to a Italian singer, Lucio Battisti, who was admired a lot by such artist as David Bowie, ecc... for me he is really the greatest italian singer and musician!

I'll take into account your suggestions.
Have a nice day!  :)
Gabriella

I am really glad that I didn't insult you. Because I would really hate that to happen.
I really like your singing and your band a lot. It was not the language I worried about, it was the Anglo Saxon feel of the music. But if you or your collective choose to do so, that's perfect with me. What do I know.

And what a perfect calling card you presented us with....
A fantastic job! Thanks @gabrivux !!!
Kind regards, Gus

Hi Gabriella

Wonderful song, wonderful voice, wonderful everything. I liked a lot
"All of a sudden he turned and smiled,
A flash in the night!
I could feel the heat inside,
In that dazing hot summer night." a lot!

The arrangement and the guitar solos are very good...
Congratulations. I think it is a great song.
I did not know that to live I had to die so many times
