"An Ode To Depeche Mode"
on: May 18, 2017, 13:48:23

This is my latest effort https://soundcloud.com/dakoda-sada/dakoda-sada-an-ode-to-depeche-mode

It's often said some of my tracks are a little reminiscent of Depeche mode , this isn't surprising as my lyrics come from the "dark-side" and I use several of the same weapons of choice (Access Virus TI2 , Prophet etc). I normally try and reign it in , but on this one I just said feckit and went with it. It's a slightly tongue-in-cheek track called "An Ode To Depeche Mode".
For the record, I've never been to Basildon  :) (but I'm sure it's a lovely place etc.. )   :-\
all comments , criticism and observations greatfully received.

"An Ode To Depeche Mode"
Lyrics: By Dakoda Sada

Good will around here
Is in very short supply
It's as as hard to find
As any free Wi-Fi
Up on 12 there's a girl of the night
She's all right
Her barks worse ,than her bite
In 603 , there's been nothing but tragedy
A young man with a sword
Taking what he can't afford
I preferred me when I lived in Basildon (repeat)
The key to my success
Was never ever confess
The key to my success
Was to never look back at the mess
In Basildon
You'll never hear a wild bird sing
In Basildon
Only the pop stars wear bling
In Basildon
The place that I call home
Has no garden for a gnome
The place I call home
There's no garden for a gnome...
I prefer poisoner to fish chef...

I admit to not having listened to Depeche Mode much. This sounds great....you make this style your own.

I read through the lyrics before listening...they stand up strong on their own.
"The main thing is to have a gutsy approach....but use your head." Julia Child

"In a world of robotic conformity, the only originality left in music is the imperfections" Eric Craptone

"Special thanks to Steve Gleason for making me who I am today." Leonard Scaper

I admit to having listened to Depeche Mode a lot since the early 80ies. ;D And this track totally reminds me of their early stuff with those great synth sounds. Totally awesome! ::headphone::
I also like the lyrics and your vocals. Very well done! Karma!

Very clever synth work with quite tongue in cheek lyrics. I never thought I would see someone else  put a garden gnome into their lyrics like I once did in a song! (Someone stole my garden gnome/And I was left alone)

It is difficult if people keep saying you sound like Artist A, or Band B and so I get it, you have gone all out Depeche Mode here. It has happened to me from time to time, and I have to say struggling for a unique sound/style is perhaps the hardest challenge of all. But you are technically good enough to develop your own style over time and I am sure it will come with work and analysis. It was a good listen this one though, so all the best in the quest to find the unique you!  ;)
If you like novels with a musical theme, why not try 'Sixth Beatle - When Music Changed The World', easily found on Amazon and Google. It is amazing, although as the author I may be biased!

I'm impressed. Great stuff. Like the production and heaviness in it and the line "The place I call home, There's no garden for a gnome" is really epic.

Btw you really have the right type of vocals for your genre. Will be back for more listens!

Cheers Marcus

@Dakoda  I think this might be the first time I have ever heard "Basildon" in a song! There has to be a first time for everything! Agree with @marcus_jb about that last line. It really resonates. iMO, BTW I'd take your vocal over Dave Gahan any day!

Olbigead , ha!, I think Dave is safe for now....
I was a bit concerned about "over" using the Basildon reference, as I'm not a fan of too much repitition
but I think I got away with it, this time.
thanks,
Dakoda

I think that word is nicely musical....the way you use it in the song.
