"As Happy as a Clam"
on: June 09, 2017, 18:57:02

 My latest

 https://soundcloud.com/dakoda-sada/dakoda-sada-happy-as-a-clam

This one started out as me "trying" to write something a bit more fluffy and less serious and not full of the usual angst,
 not sure I succeeded , ha!  :)

 "As Happy as a Clam"
Lyrics By: Dakoda Sada

Yeah, you hooked me
You hooked me like a fish
But shortly after
I was gutted on a plate
My mate had to tell me my fate
Way back then I was as happy as a clam
Just workin' for the man
But when you came along
You changed the whole damn song
Thats where it all went wrong
The lads all say your such a fox
But I rue the day I gave away
The keys to my own jukebox
Way back then I was as happy as a clam
Just workin' for the man
But when you came along
You changed the whole damn song...

I prefer poisoner to fish chef...

HI @Dakoda , well done once again, very depeche mode again, nice synthy bass sound, all works very well together  ::thumb:: ::thumb:: ::thumb::

i don't really understand the line / expression: as happy as a clam
but it sounds like being ort of happy without really having a life  ;D ;D ;D ;D

great song

Actually @Dutchbeat the real saying is "happy as a clam at high water". That's when all of the nutrients are washed in to the shore where clams can feed.  8)

Sorry, Dakoda...this song has plenty of angst still.  ;) It's just somewhat well hidden behind that fluffy title. Even those first few melody notes had me thinking somebody was going to get fooled and start feeling like they did something wrong.

I think it's another great tune, though. There is a certain tension that is created as the listener wants you to be happy as a clam but hears that you really aren't.

Love this line....

But I rue the day I gave away
The keys to my own jukebox

I really enjoy your music.

Hey, very inventive lyric 'happy as a clam' and all that! Quite catchy, especially the lead synth on counter-melody.

I think the song could maybe do with a dynamic build, or maybe a break somewhere, as it is quite a lot all on the same level. But then again maybe that's the style you are developing.

You seem able to knock these out quite frequently now, so seems you are growing more comfortable with your direction/sound, which is always a good phase to be in. Cheers.
If you like novels with a musical theme, why not try 'Sixth Beatle - When Music Changed The World', easily found on Amazon and Google. It is amazing, although as the author I may be biased!

thanks for the comments guys, I've made a few "adjustments", I'ts really hard for me to sing "in-tune" against synths playing pure tones.
I done some more Melodyne magic. I also tried to break up the main lead in a couple of places.
I'm still not sure the vocal level is right , I get it to where I want it , put it on soundcloud , listen to it and it sounds different.
Whatever processing soundcloud does , really makes it sound different.

When I am doing my vocal tracks I mute all the lead or counter melody instruments off and just sing along to the chords and/or the bass lines. I also play the backing track during the vocal take at a lower level than it is going to be in the final mix to avoid distraction. These things help my own accuracy anyway.  ;)

This is very cool @Dakoda !!!

Great sound... very smooth indeed...

Not sure I'd describe it fluffy - but nothing wrong with a bit of darkness IMO...

Love the line "changed the whole damn song..."

Agree that the synth is catchy...

Great stuff and yes I love the title / theme too!

MichaelA, sorry wasn't clear, I didn't mean what I sounded like to me on the way in. I meant what I sounded like after the vocal was laid down...
but having said that, I've never tried that, but you can be sure I might. thanks..
Dakoda.
