"Austin Powers"
on: April 09, 2019, 08:25:40
This was one of those songs where the muse passes through you as rapidly as it descended. Took me in a completely different direction with this poppy tune. Going for something a little uncanny and dystopian, calling out incels,

Austin Powers--

Pretty Woman can I trust you to lie to me
And show me all the things that folks are supposed to be?
I learned everything watching romance on silver screens.
But does the waking world really work like the dreams I've seen?

Be sure to buy her some new clothes and pretty flowers.
And should I act like James Bond or Austin Powers?

Does the hard girl really go for the lighter man?
Does Mary Jane love Peter Parker or Spiderman?

Is that the way she'll wrap her legs around me in the bath?
Oh.

Pretty Woman, you know I just don't understand.
Didn't you say you were sick of the Alpha-man?

The world is filled with "nice guys' and wannabes
Who think their lives are romantic comedies.
Yeah, well maybe half of the world believes that playing pretend
Leads to real change and 'good things.'

Well, your song has surprised me and being honest, it has not caught me until a long time later because it has puzzled me. I do not know if it's the mix that sounds strange to me, or because of the drum (I would have put a little more reverb to integrate with the rest), or the high-pitched voice that blurs yours, I do not know, but finally I have been trapped by a vibration very nice, genuine, naif could be said and much, much, innocent, that's what has caught me, the innocence of your song, of your intention, your colors.

I think it's a very good song that deserves a more objective mix that highlights the melody of the voice and lyrics and supports the special harmony that it has. Did it seem to me that sometimes the rhythm is displaced?

The lyrics are also different, portraying a stereotype of society as long as the movies repeat over and over again in general, your lyrics also have a special and natural way of telling things. I like your style.
I did not know that to live I had to die so many times

This work is highly positive in principle
But then he has things in the arrangement that could throw the normal listener off a bit
It also has some strange jumps of rhythm that strike me a little
In short the idea and the message is very good, but this should be looked at a little more slowly and correct some things.
Congratulations  ::thumb::

I like how you always let your music take you wherever it must and you just go with that flow. All those little "flaws" make this song uniquely yours and express something that was going on in your interaction with the muse at the time.

I am on my third listen. This somewhat frantic and apparently haphazard production is just a smoke screen. I love where the vocals are in this and I absolutely LOVE that first line!

I always go back to my signature quote from @eric craptone . This song reminds me of why I listen to home grown music almost exclusively these days.

@Rewboat I read your lyrics first...They're honest, to the point (love that) and very well put together. It's a thought I haven't heard in music, and your point is strong. When I listened, I felt I had to put effort into chasing your voice and felt distraction by so much going on. But maybe just bringing vocals forward would help that. With that being said, your music and lyric writing is crazy-good!
Do what makes your heart sing :)

Hey @Rewboat , looove listening to creative work! Nice presentation with the vid with the lyrics timed perfectly.
Had to listen a few times to catch your vibe. And I did..  Sounds a bit random at times, but in the end I got there. Musically..
But still I don't know what your point is.. What did you try to say? As a non-native-english speaker I, in advance, apologize for my stupidity..
Great listen anyways my friend, loved to listen! Thanks for sharing your work with us..
Cheers!

Hey guys! Been busy but I appreciate all of your responses- especially because I was really trying something different here.

@Mar T. -  I don't love getting political, but I see an epidemic of cognitive dissonance happening for people who expected life to be like everything they saw in movies and television and heard in pop songs.

@Marcus Nalgaber and @Kellyanneg I love throwing people off! In many ways this is an 'anti-pop' song that lures you in with a catchy melody and the illusion of a steady beat, but ultimately leave you feeling unsure if you can really follow along...like trying to live your life like imaginary characters. It is deliberately off-putting because it's a skeptical song and almost a warning about falling for these mind tricks.

@Dutchbeat I'm really glad you enjoyed it. Sounds like you got it

@Leonard Scaper caught the first line, which literally speaks not to a girl, but to the movie Pretty Woman and comments on the somewhat necessary bargain struck with a young relationship-- so either the movie provides the wish fulfillment, or  you start a relationship by asking a pretty woman, ''will you please act like this fantasy for me even though we both know it's not real?'

@Mora Amaro La Loba- innocence perhaps, i think that's an optimistic way of looking at it. Thanks for your kind words

I admit this was a strange one to put out and I wasn't sure how people would take it- thanks for making it worth it.

Reflective without being too morbid.
