Blues Puddles (collab challenge)
on: December 13, 2019, 16:44:08
« Last Edit: December 20, 2019, 21:38:41 by Kolohe »
This is our, @Mo and @Kolohe , collaboration challenge entry.

Mo and I decided to go with our original sketch recording because we liked it the way it was.......guitar mistakes and all.
I did the sketch recording at 1roomstudio’s place just to send something along to Mo, which included talking.
Mo sent it back ......it’s like we had a jam session.

So we submit “Blues Puddles” short and raw.

Blues Puddles
By Mo and Kolohe

When I was young, I hiked down a lonely road
No cars in sight, just thoughts of my own
The rain with all it’s might came pouring down
Left me standing in a blues puddled ground

Had a girl, she was the only one for me
A tender heart, smile lit a christmas tree
She stepped out for cigarettes and a bottle of crown
I saw blues puddles, she never came back around
I saw blues puddles, she never came back around

Chorus
I got a blues puddle everywhere I step
May the lord have mercy and help me forget
All my troubles roaming through this town
Will be under my shoes in a blues puddled ground

Looking forward to everyone’s submissions!

@Kolohe Haha! Yes, it has its humour :) The duo-vocal works quite nicely, especially when you do the close harmony interactions. You could be sitting on a stool in a pub with a gathering around it, and people would be drinking and listening.
Pleudoniem: composer; bass guitarist; guitarist; singer; drummer; tap-guitarist - o, and yes... erm- a bit of keys. Open for collabs.

I like the spontaneity- feel like I`m sitting in your studio @Mo  & @Kolohe ...vocals recorded miles apart but with nice chemistry between you.
The looseness and ad libs are a good fit for the lyrics too.
Good fun

Hi @Kolohe and @Mo

Your song sounds so natural and as @Pleudoniem says you could be playing and singing live while people listen to your show.
I appreciate how @Mo makes harmony with her voice.

I liked a lot this

"The rain with all it’s might came pouring down
Left me standing in a blues puddled ground"

I did not know that to live I had to die so many times

Wow what's not to like? Gritty rhythmic acoustic guitar, strong soulful vocals, sweet harmonies, a bit of swagger and humour. Great song, love it!

Ha!!! I'm fashionably late.
What a very strong entry!
I love it already. I go back for another spin, but I am absolutely sure that i'll be loving it even more.
Great!
Kind regards, Gus

Oh I agree with the rest!! This is sooo authentic, natural, raw, beautiful.. Beatle-esque harmony vocals, Everly Brothers-vibes.. Was tapping my toes.. started moving.. I simply loved it!!
Great guitar playing and the mini production (only guitar and a few voices) sound wonderfully mastered (production-wise). Love the chit-chatting around as well..
Makes me really happy!!! Well done!!
Cheers!

Nice work @Kolohe  and @Mo  The lyrics  are solid story telling with  a bit of wry humor. Love how the metaphor of "Blues Puddles" is used differently each time... very skillful writing.

Strong blues guitar with patter and harmonies that sound like old friends cutting up... very real.

Thank you for your kind and encouraging comments!

I really liked that collab challenge and it was a honor to me to be with such experienced and great musicans. Thank you @Kolohe for being in that game with me and also @1roomstudio  for amazing support':D.
I never have been joined a real jamming so our challenge entry song was a special pleasure to me although it was just a fake  ;D

We also worked at another version that you maybe want to hear?

Wow! Love this version as well! @Mo and @Kolohe  ...  Almost Rockabilly... Bluesabilly?

I especially like that Booooovvve that holds the bottom, and that bit of slide at the end is a nice touch.

Oh! And nice track art as well  8)

I'm really glad that you went with this version......it's just really good home grown music.

You all are in the same room @Mo  and @Kolohe  … what a cool, informal jam kind of thing.
Just hanging out and singing with the tape running...
