I wrote this song many years ago.

Lyrics for the first verse and  some of the refrain were taken from the poem
"so we'll go no more a'roving",
. . . . written by Lord Byron.
The other verses are mine.

Leonard Cohen, failing to add his own lyrics, wrote a different melody for the poem some years ago.
My take is much better, still I like to think of us as one big, happy-camper fambly.

The production is  new

Feedback would be nice

By The Light

So we’ll go no more a’roving
So late into the night
Though the heart be still as loving
And the moon be still as bright
For the sword outwears its sheath
And the soul wears out the breast
And the heart must pause to breath
And love itself must rest

Though the night was made for lovers, and the day returns too soon
Yet we’ll go no more a’roving, by the light, by the light of the moon

We are lost lords of darkness
We are found in knowing that
And these things that fall away from us
Will not again come back
Stars still hang in the day sky
Though they cannot be seen
They really come alive
As we are lost in dreams

Though the night was made for lovers, and the day returns too soon
Yet we’ll go no more a’roving, by the light, by the light of the moon

Our clinging hands are tied
To every other weight
And we're falling down the hillside
With everything we take
Should we love's child abandon
As our Father's law is enforced
After acts once born of passion
And time has taken its course

Though the night was made for lovers, and the day returns too soon
Yet we’ll go no more a’roving, by the light of the moon

By the light, by the light of the moon

@rightly  - mesmerising, captivating. Well sung! Piano may be a bit deep in the mix. I get some Cockney Rebel - (Somebody called me) Sebastian vibe - which is a good thing for me.
Are you looking for some specific feedback or tips?

Your arrangements always surprise me - in a very positive way I must add. I don't know what Leonard Cohen did with it but this is exceptional. The production sounds fine to me, though I'll listen again later on my studio monitors as these headphones aren't too good. An excellent piece. :)

hi thanks for commenting
not looking for specific feedback really with this one
still, yes I could bring the piano out more

When I mix i tend to start losing patience at some point and then rush
I'll have to try to stop doing that

Hi @rightly ,

I really like your concept and think that your song has a lot of great elements. I think it has a lot of potential and can sound even better with some refining of the vocal melody. With regards to the verses I love your vocal melody idea, I think it just needs some fine tweaking of some areas and it could also sound fantastic with the addition of harmonies eg in the second verse (to help it build up more).

With regards to the chorus I suggest that you develop the vocal melody over there a bit more so as to increase interest in that section and make it stand out from the melody of the verse. I really like what you’re doing with the music- the stops the changes (e.g. at the word moon), the different sounds... there are some very fantastic elements and they come together nicely, and if the same level of refinement is provided for the vocal it can sound even better. I have some ideas in mind, if you like I can record some bits for you so that I can show you better, just let me know :)

I hope this helps,
Thanks for sharing

The chorus  really  appealed - especially as the arrangement lightened up to give it space. Howly 'moon' expression at the end was cool.

Maybe track sounded a bit dry for me.

Nice one- thanks for sharing !

Regarding your comments about the vocals
I think you're right

I think the way I work on a track
Is very creative
All cylinders for a whole 24hour day when inspired
Then go back n tidy up then hopefully another spell of inspiration

There does come a point when I can't get back into the song
I tidy up and call it finished

Glad you like the song

Regarding collaboration I'm often interested
I think about bands such as Queen or radio head
By golly, they've got it good with more than one active artist working on the same track

I'm really looking forward to hear what you do with the track

Thanks for taking an interest
