"Camera Toward The Mirror"
on: June 19, 2017, 15:07:19
put this one together this weekend.

https://soundcloud.com/user-482925652/camera-toward-mirror

Camera Toward The Mirror

Darkness falls like thunder all around my bed
Leaving little chance for sleep again tonight
I stumble to another room and there upon the wall
Pure innocence in Tri-X black and white

Our newborn hopes and promises stripped of all pretense
Come spilling like a fountain from the frame
Emotions washing over me the image holds much more
Than 8 by 10 could possibly contain

You turned your camera toward the mirror caught our spirits in contrast
Were you focused on the future or were you looking to the past
I still remain a captive of this scene that you devised
And more so by the mystery thatís there within your eyes

Did your life unfold in colors more than your lens reveals
Was your heart exposed to things you never dreamed
Is there something deep inside you just beyond your reach
A precious jewel thatís yet to be redeemed

The ticking of the mantel clock the scratch of pen to page
Companions to this midnight sleepless mind
The ghost trapped in this photograph unwilling now to share
The answers to the questions that I find

Another fantastic song from you. What I like about how you write is the way you string your words together. For instance.......I love how "mirror" works with "spirit" in this line:

You turned your camera toward the mirror caught our spirits in contrast

....and then this line......

The ticking of the mantel clock the scratch of pen to page

Seriously good lyrical work that would only work with your wonderful delivery of said lyrics.

Great storytelling and I like it that this frozen moment of time has inspired you to write this song. :-)

@Leonard Scaper  I appreciate that. I don't know where this stuff comes from, but it's either write it down or go crazy. The go crazy part may be too late, but I still like to write. I did have one person tell me that he didn't the "darkness fell like thunder" line. He said it didn't make sense. Oh well.

@Dara   Thanks for that. I've been telling stories since about 3 grade. Some of those got me in trouble. You don't want to make stuff up when dealing with corporal punishment from an angry nun! Maybe there's a song in that!

@MrBouzouki    That photo is my favorite that my now wife took when we were dating. She has a unique view on light and focus. The SoundCloud upload doesn't do it justice. Thanks for the listen and comments.

Yeah...write or go crazy sounds about right for me as well.

I'm afraid I have to completely disagree about that line. Having darkness fall like thunder is a very powerful image for me........it reminds me of those times when the thunder is so strong that you can feel the sound waves rolling over you. Giving those attributes to falling darkness makes the whole experience that much more visceral.

You really are a master of your trade @Mr Sydney . This song sounds perfect to me. Those lyrics are quite remarkable, and I also like the image of "darkness that fell like thunder". Totally makes sense, in a very poetic way. Beautiful work! ::headphone::

@Leonard Scaper   @Mark Luto    Thanks for understanding that not everything has to be so literal. Sure I write that way sometimes, but can't a fellow be a little bit poetic at times?  Didn't think "darkness falls like thunder" would be such a big deal for that guy.

Thanks again gents!

@revivalchoir   Thanks Sean, that means a lot. Doing this keeps me reasonably sane, most days anyway.
