Children Of Our Times
on: September 06, 2019, 12:52:23
This song is for all of the indigenous peoples that have lived and are living still here on this amazing planet of ours.

Children Of Our Times
https://www.soundclick.com/html5/v4/player.cfm?songID=13918397

We have wandered across the plains
Over glaciered mountain ranges
For ages of time
Through eons of little change
And storms that often raged
These rivers slowly wind
Fearless and courageous
We have held our lines

Sheltering from the rain
Around the hearthstones of strangers
Singing their mystery rhymes
With so much more to gain
And heedless of the dangers
We have shared our minds
Peerless and tenacious
We are children of our times

CHORUS
Change
What's it going to do to us
Who will we become
It's a shame
That there's so few of us
Change
Is this world through with us
There's nowhere left to run

INSTRUMENTAL

BRIDGE

We have stayed the same
But now the others have brought these changes
Who's stars shine
Our stories will remain
We are children of our times

CHORUS

We have wandered across the plains
Over glaciered mountain ranges
No we've run out of time
"The main thing is to have a gutsy approach....but use your head." Julia Child

"In a world of robotic conformity, the only originality left in music is the imperfections" Eric Craptone

"Special thanks to Steve Gleason for making me who I am today." Leonard Scaper

Wow!!

@Leonard Scaper  and his songs ... I always like to listen to them, they give me calm although many make me sad.
They are children of their time, it is true, but they had a time,  now young ones are orphans of time (theirs and ours) because everything flies actually so fast that they are always in the future, despite their present.

I am struck once again by the sound you make with acoustic guitars. So good!  ::Suzy:: ::thumb:: ::thumb::
I did not know that to live I had to die so many times

I don`t know if you have native dna @Leonard Scaper - listening to your well written and moving song made me consider again: Is it ok to write a song as the voice of a people though I`m of a different race/ethnicity? If you can put yourself in another`s skin with feeling as you have here, the question become irrelevant.
This is very good ::thumb:: The bass coming in helps the song move and your guitar chording/arpeggios are such a trademark that I "get" the rhythm you work with now.
Your vocals always connect ( nice hint of harmonies on the chorus too).
All to say... I really enjoyed this!

Robert

@Mora Amaro La Loba ....I am glad that my songs touch a place of emotion in you while at the same time giving you a sense of peace. That is exactly how they come to me.  Thank you, Mora.

@robertkc .......I think we can all trace our DNA back to some common ancestors if we look back far enough. That is how far I was reaching back with this song. It brought a smile that you are able to connect with my somewhat odd rhythm styling. I appreciate the fact that you always give my songs a listen. I'm glad that you enjoyed this one and I appreciate your kind words.

Sounding awesome! at times this reminds me of Biffy Clyro! not a fan of that website though.

The mids and treble sound great, but there is no low end, is this because of the mp3 conversion settings?

Thanks for that @Dara . Interesting observation about the low end. I thought I had that dialed in ok. I'm pretty careful with my HPF's these days and I actually added a bit of 100 Hz to the bass line.

I'll take another look back in the studio...guess I should throw up a frequency analyzer. I think a mastering engineer would probably get all my stuff punching a little more in the low end.

Thanks for that close listen. Listening to "Black Chandelier" right now. Seriously good stuff! Thanks for that  Biffy Clyro introduction.

Very nice @Leonard Scaper

The guitars sound great as does your voice. Very calming but also powerful at the same time. Makes me sit up and listen as it has an "elder" type sound to it. By "elder" I mean someone who has authority, knowledge and experience who passes on their knowledge to younger people - which I guess is what some of the song is about (for me anyway).

The solo guitar is very good as well - nice and restrained with lots of emotion.

cheers

@Jurgen .......your comments give me pause....to reflect on where my music is coming from these days. I don't grind over these story lines or lyrics any more. They just come out....from someplace deep inside....and ride the music.

Pondering that.

Thank you.

Nice little tune you got there! Not my genre of music but nevertheless I really enjoyed it.

Hey Leonard, you made a great tune, the guitars are beautiful and your voice is smooth and full of emotions, our future it's quite a subject and we are concerned about it.
Your mix is very good in the headphones, if I could say a little something as listener, I wonder how it could sound with the amazing Rhodes in a less extreme left position  ;)
Cheers

@mazzmarriott ....I know what you mean about genres. I appreciate the listen. How cool is it here at The Kitchen.......with SO many different kinds if music?

@dashyell .....thanks for that critical listen. I'm actually in the studio right now working on something else but I have been meaning to do a quick remix of this one as there are a few things that have been bothering me. I think what you may be hearing off on the left is one of them. That's a B3 organ patch in my old rack synth and it is definitely a bit too hard panned. There is also a second electric guitar over hard right that is too loud and too hard panned.

I think @Dara is right about the low end as well. Let's see what I can do about that.

Hold on a minute while I pull that mix up.......

There we go.  MUCH btetter.  8)
