Cleanse my heart
on: February 16, 2015, 21:58:30
My first post here and I guess this song is a good example of my "style" and what to expect in the future  ;D
This one was written pretty easily but recording it took some time and mixing it has taken forever.
I think the current mix is the best I can do (at the moment at least) but feedback is still very much appreciated of course.
And that goes feedback on  the song, lyrics, playing etc. as well.

And btw, getting from 4/4 to 3/4 was easy, getting back to 4/4 was a bitch  ;D

CLEANSE MY HEART

What have we done?
we left the door unlocked
and now our love is on the the run
Shame on us all
we left the fire burning
now it's way out of control

Doubt charged at our defences
stormed our castles walls
now fear and distrust pouring in
flood our hearts and souls

Cleanse my heart
from prejudice and pride
purge my soul
from memories I hide
let me pass the test
please pull me through
to be reborn anew

We lost the spark
that used to light the fire
now we stuck here in the dark
Lost in lust
it led us so astray
and we forgot who we should trust

Doubt charged at our defences
stormed our castles walls
now fear and distrust pouring in
flood our hearts and souls

Cleanse my heart
from prejudice and pride
purge my soul
from memories I hide
let me pass the test
please pull me through
to be reborn anew
cleanse my heart

In these green fields of freedom
where our hearts used to roam
our hopes way up high up just like kites
reality burned them to ashes
and grind them to dust

In this burning inferno
these scorched fields of pain
where we marched out to battle and lost
now nothing remains
just images
memories
and dust

Cleanse my heart
from prejudice and pride
purge my soul
from memories I hide
let me pass the test
please pull me through
to be reborn anew
cleanse my heart

Cleanse my heart
purge my soul
to be reborn
anew
Let man's petty nations tear themselves apart
My land's only borders lie around my heart

I like your style of music.Very good and full production.Do you play all instruments by yourself? Sounds like a lot of work.
Very well done.  :)

Hi Jambrains
I  Like this & it kind of  reminded me (in Bits) of Lucy in the sky & fool on the hill  I  can hear The Beatles influence.
I definately know a lot of work went into this & its a complex arrangement :)  So very well done. I liked how it started & was pleasantly hooked when it went into the second bit where it picks up the beat etc.  Some parts after that 2nd bit are great but might need a return look  (They are almost there) just clashing very slightly between the drum n bass ( I think) but Otherwise very impressive  look forwards to more  of your stuff  WELCOME    Enjoyed this  Very Good   :)  Stylus :)

Lovely song and recording / production...

Very impressive.... I'm also interested in the instrumentation.. how you constructed it.

Look forward to more!

Lovely dynamics in this arrangement. I love the way you are able to build up some sections and then pull it back, very good control.  The only part I found a bit distracting was the latter section when you relied on a lot of drum rolls to me it clashed with the groove of the song and at times seemed to be at odds to the beat of the supporting instruments. I can see what you were trying to achieve with it but I think it doesn't quiet come off, but other than that I think its a really good song. Well written and that guitar solo near the end, made me think of Pink Floyd.

Thanks for the kind words everybody! Very encouraging.
Yes; I do everything myself which is great fun but also very time consuming and from time to time very frustrating. Guitars, bass and vocals are "live", drums programmed and keyboards partly played, partly programmed.

@Zedd: Any specific questions? I'd be more than happy to answer :-)

Hi Jambrains,

Lovely sounding intro synths.
I like the tones on the acoustic.
The drums seem a little busy under the chorus.  Really like the bit that comes after the first chorus.
Lots of nice changes - quite proggy.

Interesting write.

Hi Jambrains  :) what an impressive first song  :) I love the way it morphs into the different time sigs :o really well done and excellent lyrics and vocals :)

very nice harmonies and all of the instrumentation seems to fit very well...nice bass line that starts around 2:00 :) great guitar solo...definite PF feel
