Cold blood
on: November 07, 2016, 17:07:16
Hello everybody. I'm posting a song that...I cannot lie...I've been wrestling with. Never can seem to get it right. As @Mr Sydney mentioned on another thread, why do we write? I cannot answer that except sometimes this stuff just pours out sometimes. This is one like that. Anyway here it is the SC link:

https://soundcloud.com/olbigead/cold-blood

And here is the lyric:

Cold blood

Its hard to understand
Its harder to believe
The blood is on their hands
Its in the air we breathe
Among the bicycles
Lying twisted there
The tangled bodies
Left strewn across the square

Running with the face of fear
In cold blood
Our sons and our daughters
Cut down and taken from us
In cold blood
Can noone stop the slaughter?
For the love of god
They're killing them all
In cold blood

There was no warning
No mercy, no forgiveness
Just grey of morning
And blood turned into mist
The rain will come again
And wash the stains away
It will not heal the pain
Or wipe the memory

Running with the face of fear
In cold blood
Our sons and our daughters
Cut down and taken from us
In cold blood
Can noone stop the slaughter?
For the love of god
They're killing them all
In cold blood

@Olbigead what a wonderful recording. First of all I like that you have a slower pace in this track. It makes your voice more apparent. Love the lyrics too. As I said before I love how you write and create pictures in your songs. This one is no different when it comes to that aspect. You're a true talent!

Best Marcus

Hi @Olbigead,

Heavy... as we used to say back in the day.

Quiet, but powerful.

Thanks for sharing this with us.

Hi @Olbigead

everything about this track is great - the words, the guitar and the vocals are all outstanding.

This is one of the best things I've listened to in a while.

cheers

Powerful, beautiful, I love everything about this - it's really just so real and although the subject matter is so serious, the delivery is really beautiful, from the guitar to the vocal to the harmonies. Amazing @Olbigead ....

Wow!

@marcus_jb....thank you as always. To be truth it is a strange little sad song. Mrs OlBigEad is not a fan of this one; she asked me why I would write a piece that makes her feel so depressed!?

@Zedd To be honest, I'm not sure how I would feel playing something like this in front of people.

@jurgen What an incredible compliment! Thank you

@smajor I like what you say about quiet. When I wrote this, it was a silent gray morning in the city, just a light rain outside. The raindrops turned into the repeating note that the whole thing started with.

@Olbigead ... it's the strange little sad songs that invade your heart and won't let go...at least that's what I find.   ;)  I'll give it a listen tomorrow but judging from people's reactions it'll be a belter! :D  It's good the way you just knock 'em out whereas mine are so protracted... :-[

I wasn't disappointed...  ::thumb:: this is a wonderful piece of music... ;D I can so hear big swelling strings in the background though.  Care to share the chords @Olbigead?

Hi @Jim, I'll do me best except...I cannot remember all the formal chord names in my advanced years (Dsus4 and all that):

Song is in D minor. Normal tuning on the guitar. Play most of the chords with the E string open on top. Also have the D (on 2nd string) going through all chords to keep that monotonous beat going.

Dminor (run at end is F on 6th string G (3string) D (2nd string) E (1st string))

Verse
D minor, F,  Bflat (with a G), Bflat (with a G)
D minor, F, Gminor, Gminor
D minor, F,  Bflat (with a G), Bflat (with a G)
D minor, F, Gminor, Gminor

Chorus
Dminor, Cmaj on E, Gminor, Bflat
Dminor, Cmaj on E, Gminor, Bflat
Dminor, F, Cmaj, Gminor
Dminor, F, Cmaj, Gminor
Dminor, F, Cmaj, Gminor
Dminor, F, Cmaj, Gminor

Dminor

Repeat...that's it! Bear in mind that I am playing versions of traditional chords with some of the strings open

This is a wonderfull tack. Your voice draws the listener in and the simply played arpeggios behind it serve to highlight the vocal even more. Really well done and expertly arranged,  My word there are some great songs on the forum atm.

Kudos for the write and production - outstanding !
